Announcellation: Entertainment Media Is Losing Its Mind (The Jimquisition)
Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live had its release date and its cancellation announced in the same statement, marking a new level of absurdity in gaming. The media landscape is in freefall and, funny as this is, it's really quite concerning.

Did You see Delila Black has a Patreon?
NekoIncarnadine mentioned private servers in passing in their comment, but I'd like to expand on it a bit. In my mind, playing on a private server for a game that's "died" is just as morally okay as pirating all of Nintendo's games. If you've paid for the game, as you say, Steph, what is the statute of limitations? How long should you be able to play it? Private servers provide people with the opportunity to actually enjoy the games they buy independent of capitalism's whims. You could even make the argument that private servers are where the real innovation is; Blizzard spoke to the developers of the leading classic WoW server before starting their own. Not the most savory example, of course, but regardless I think the point stands: the community, not capitalism, is where new shit comes from. The community, also, is where game developers come from, so it's not surprising that when capitalism doesn't have as much of an influence (indie games), we *do* see new shit. Unfortunately, because the games industry is the games industry, it's "not okay" to talk about private servers in the same way it's "not okay" to talk about emulation, but I trust you'll give the topic the attention it deserves, just like you do with emulation :) btw the Steam Deck is an awesome emulation device, RetroArch is on Steam (for now) and works great, no issues
I will admit I find it interesting you use City of Heroes as a game that died because it got old. (Super-summarized: It was kinda murdered by NCSoft over an argument between them and the developer studio. When it was at the most profitable it had ever been in the wake of a successful Free-To-Play Conversion. So closer to what KLab has pulled with Love Live School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live. Except it's unlikely there's going to be a fan-run private server that gets an official license coming out for LLSIF2ML.) That said - the broad circumstance here is true, and what's the popular meme right now? "If buying isn't owning, then pirating isn't stealing."
We live in hell 🤠
