New dawn, old gameplay! Far Cry New Dawn is perfectly acceptable entertainment. If you liked Far Cry, and want more Far Cry, then New Dawn is more Far Cry.
It pays lip service to its apocalyptic premise, but it's still got plenty of Far Cry for you to enjoy. If indeed you want more Far Cry!

When I was playing through <i>Just Cause 3</i>, I said to a friend, "Can you imagine if Ubisoft had made this? It would be a joyless slog," and he laughed and nodded in agreement. This looks like Ubisoft tried to make a <i>Just Cause</i> game.

The "Steam Discussions" (aka forums) are not the clusterfuck I was expecting. It's almost as if this is so routine for Steam that even Steam users are bored of it. (I'm saying that as a bad thing, not as a "lol u mad bro u offended??/" remark.)
Actually the microtransaction feel tacked on rather than grindy bullshit. (but the game is just a time waster)
I'm concerned about the "RPG" elements- sniping someone in the head and having a number pop up as they run off to alert the base doesn't sound like a lot of fun.
