The Adventures Of Elliot: The Millennium Tales - Shut Up, Shut Up, Shut Up! (Review)
I reviewed The Adventures of Elliot, a game that asks a simple question - can voice acting ruin a videogame? It's certainly determined to answer in the affirmative.

Voice acting ruins most games, though for different reasons. There's a difference between people who can read and people who can act, and it's usually the former who are hired. Sure they can read with some expression, but the inflections are often wrong and sentences feel disconnected from context. I find myself turning off game audio entirely because the problem is so egregious and widespread.
Ruins most games? I think you just don't like it when people talk. That sounds entirely like a 'you' problem respectfully.
It's so weird to me that this continues to be a problem and I've noticed it becoming a far bigger problem for Japanese games especially. God of War had the annoying puzzle tips and such that you could thankfully turn down the frequency of but I don't understand what is going on with Japanese developers as this problem seems to be getting worse and worse in the last few years. It's like they think having any empty space where there isn't something distracting or annoying you will mean you'll stop playing the game. I really don't get it but I'm so sick of it.
I think what annoys me the most that even after close to 30 years of "Hey! Listen!" jokes a game company would still do this and treat people who play games like they are thick.
I can't believe games still tell us to use the stick to move in the tutorials, especially now when control schemes are pretty standardized. Tell me about mechanics unique to the game in your tutorial, I can figure out the basic controls on my own. Even if I've never played a video game I can figure out the stick moves the character.
