I know Arzette isnt a remake, but its probably the best example I can think of, where a dev team tried to recreate the magic of an era long gone, and not only succeeded, but also made a noticeably better product out of it. I think that when it comes to understanding and appreciating the context of that once flawed but beloved era... (that being mid 2000's youtube poops that embraced the cdi games years later)... Arzette sits proudly at the top.
Daaamn, that "gods" guy in the original looks hilariously rad.
A great example of a remake done well is Wonderboy: The Dragon's Trap. Well worth playing. And even though you can switch between original and new graphics, the changes are far beyond a simple reskin. Animation, backgrounds, and character models all given an update in a new art style.

You'd think that between memes about hd retexture mods and retro aesthetic games with elaborate options to reproduce old graphics to the point of impeding gameplay, this would be common knowledge. And stil. Well said, Steph.
