(Story Focus) The Student Council in Yandere Simulator

Some of the videos I create don't have to do with game development progress. When I create a new video that is more focused on story than gameplay, I usually don't post about it on Patreon. Yesterday's video about the student council was 100% gameplay-focused, and today's video about the student council is 100% story-focused. However, I'm still posting this video to Patreon, because there are a few noteworthy things that are discussed here:

All students in Yandere Simulator are generated from the same "base model", which has a very limited degree of flexibility. As a result, all students in the school feel like clones who are wearing different wigs.  I have been disappointed in the lack of variety in faces, animations, and personality among students in Yandere Simulator. For a long time, I have wanted to try taking the base model to its absolute limits and create characters who are unique from other students as possible.

The creation of the student council was largely an experiment to see if I could achieve the following:

1. Unique faces / facial expressions for specific students
2. Unique idle / walk animations for specific students
3. Unique personality / dialogue for specific students
4. Unique uniforms for specific students
(Bonus: More authentic-sounding Japanese names)

To be truthful, everything above has already been accomplished - to a small degree - with earlier students. However, this time, I set my goals much higher...and I'm happy to say that I feel that I struck all of my goals for the student council!

Now that I've developed a system for assigning unique faces/animations/dialogue to specific students, I can design more interesting students in the future, and also update older students to be more interesting. This represents a big step in getting Yandere Simulator closer to meeting my own personal standards of quality, which is why I'm posting a story-focused video here today. I hope that you're as excited about this as I am!

By the way: does it bother you when I upload story-focused content to Patreon? Would you prefer it if I exclusively uploaded content that demonstrates game development progress?

Thanks again for your support!

Personally, I enjoy all your updates and find the variety in your videos interesting- what concerns and interests you is of interest to me.

This is so cool! But I worry about accessibility in terms of difficultly. The more I see about new features in the game, the more I worry that my skill levels will simply not be up to par to be able to defeat even the first rival successfully. Will there be easier difficulty modes where the student council is missing, or other features like that (or should I just give up now and resign myself to watching let's plays of people with greater skill that me?). I recognize I am in the minority considering many people want YS to be more difficult, but I can't be the only one who thinks that way... right?

It's possible that there could be lower difficulty modes for ease of accessibility. Osana will be the easiest rival, and each subsequent rival will be a little be more difficult than the previous one. Ideally, each rival should "train" you to develop skill and get better at the game so that you're prepared for the challenges of the subsequent rival...at least, that's what it's supposed to be like. Ideally, Yandere Simulator should have the same level of difficulty as an average Hitman game. If you want to "practice", perhaps you could play one of the recent Hitman games!

I’d like to see story updates posted here as well!

I really like the idea of the student council. Now I wonder, will you get any extra from Infochan for their pantsushots? BTW, what do they think of somebody like Infochan operating in the school? Do they cope with that, do they somehow collaborate?

Y
YandereDev · December 18, 2017

I do think that certain students should be "worth" more "points" with Info-chan. (This is already implemented for Musume, but no other character.) The Student Council should definitely be worth extra points. As for the mysterious locked "Info Club" that is off-limits to all students...it'll be expanded upon in the Headmaster's tapes.

I see that you are trying to bring colour and diversity to the game which is great. Regarding the text I recommend checking tracery (<a href="https://github.com/galaxykate/tracery)," rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://github.com/galaxykate/tracery),</a> it has a C# port for Unity (<a href="https://github.com/mkremins/TracerySharp)." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://github.com/mkremins/TracerySharp).</a>

I really enjoy the progress of the game so far. But is it possible to have Yandere-chan get any rumors/dark secrets from any of the student council members that is true? I know you already have a lot of ideas on your late already but can it be possible?

Y
YandereDev · December 18, 2017

I definitely want to give the player the ability to get to the bottom of the rumors. I have some plans, but I wouldn't like to say too much about what I have in mind.

Getting more insight on story is, I feel, very important in any game. Gives a bit of depth to the whole project and characters as a whole. So, no, this is not at all annoying

Personally uploading story videos here doesn’t bother me at all! I actually really like learning about the backstory and lore of the game!
