Yandere Simulator's Update Schedule

The 1st-and-15th update schedule that I've been using for the past 3 years may actually be detrimental towards the game.

I'm at a point in the game's development where every remaining feature requires more than 2 weeks of work, so it's simply not possible to show off new content every 2-week cycle. When this happens, I produce a "filler" video just to keep up the 1st-and-15th tradition...but these "filler" videos usually get a negative reception, and only take my time away from development.

I honestly believe that we'd be further into the game's development by now if I hadn't been forcing myself to maintain the 1st-and-15th tradition. I think it's time to abandon that schedule, and post updates on a "Whenever It's Ready" basis, instead. What do you think?

Hi, any comments about the effect of patreon new policies?

I'm honestly not sure what to make of it. When Patreon made a blog post explaining how it works, they explained it like this: https://imgur.com/ugb8s4x.png At first, it seemed like an improvement. Jumping from 85% to 95%. How nice! (I noted that the above graph is kind of misleading, because those two bars are actually different lengths. However, even if you adjust the bars to be the same length, it still seemed like it was a beneficial change.) However, if I think about it from the perspective of the patrons, I begin to see where the controversy is: If you're supporting someone with a $20 monthly pledge, an additional $0.35 is probably nothing to you. It's just a 1.75% increase to what is leaving your bank account. However, folks who pledge $1 are now seeing a 35% increase in what's leaving their bank account. The real question here is, how many people truly care about an extra $0.35 per month? Will this cause a huge number of people to cancel their $1 pledges? Or will it basically have zero effect? I'm completely unsure, because I don't know how much the average patron really values $0.35 per month. Personally, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest, but I understand if matters to people who were only willing to commit $1.00 and no more.

Anything to get content out to us and the public is good in my book, so go for it!

Any time spent not developing the game that generally receives bad responses should be avoided. Tradition is allowed to change and as long as you can focus on game development, then that is the best course of action. A video update isn't necessary when just posting a short "Hey, I'm still here! Just working on the same massive update for the last two weeks!" should be enough to sate fans. Some people are losing hope, but trying to cater to the audiences that only troll and hate is time that you are wasting on development.

1:16 YandereDev dies from millions of virtual paper cuts.

Also, go for the whole "less videos" thing. If stuff is beyond taking two weeks to put in, it's better to focus on the game than needing to think of a video topic just to have a video.

THIS IS WHY? I thought you were going to take a break ^^: and because of Love Sick Unfortunately the Community Hammer fly's faster as the Programmer Bird. just stupid that he hit you again :(

Sounds reasonable to me. Do what you think is best for yourself and the development of the game.

I think you should just give it all with working on the game and not worry so much about the videos to update us. You should do what suits you, fighting✊🏻👏🏻

Sounds good to me! We can endure whatever it takes to make the game come to fruition.

I don't have a problem with it. I would prefer you only make videos when you feel it is necessary to inform us of a major update. No need for filler videos (although I don't downvote them if you make them).

I think a ‘when it’s ready’ schedule is much better than the 1st and 15th! I think it’s still a good idea to just post a short bi-weekly blog post just saying what you’ve been working on so we don’t just get radio silence, but overall just releasing a video when it’s needed and just taking a break from programming when it gets too stressful would be much better for everyone!

Personally I'd rather see you concentrate on the game more than the update videos. Just don't go completely radio silent, a short "Hey I'm still alive and working message" can go a long way.

I think that was a popular suggestion here for many months anyway. As you've said it takes an hour to produce one minute of video, that's a lot of time going to waste. If working on the game becomes tedious it's actually better to take a break than work on videos. With that being said I do believe that posting bi-weekly blog posts is essential and that they should focus on what you're currently working on.

Yeah, we don't need videos all the time. As long as we hear /something/ from you every so often. As you mentioned in the video, don't go silent for extended periods of time. Just so we know the project isn't dead.

I think you're competent enough to know when an aspect of your schedule is inefficient for you and your project, so you do what you think is best.

Go fo it.

Throughout the years of update you've more than adequately shown the struggle and time that goes into game development. I love your updates and an irregular schedule would be perfectly understandable. Especially since you're usually so thorough with them; a "whenever it's ready" update I'm sure wouldn't lose it's quality in comparison.

I'm really happy to hear that! Thank you for your feedback!
