June patreoners here!
20 years prior to present day, a patrol of the dragon-worshipping cult of the Black Dragon found themselves in a very peculiar situation.
They came across an infant, a human baby, tucked in fine linens, in the middle of the long abandoned portion of the forest.
Where did this child come from, they pondered. But nonetheless, they couldn't leave a child alone in the forest.
Arriving back at their outpost in the heart of the forest, they are confronted by their leader, the imposing, but regal dragon, Arcane. Who seems reluctant on accepting a wild human child into his hearth.
The patrol insists on letting the child stay, and vouch to raise him as one of their own. Arcane scoffed and ordered the men to uphold their vow to raise the boy into an asset, rather than a liability.
Years passed by and the young boy, who they named Atin, was given training in the arts of swordfight. With a strong arm, and his heart and soul in the right spot.
He quickly grew to be adored by men and women of his clan, a kind and compassionate young man.
It was the day when Arcane's great hibernation period began, that Atin's resolve would be tested. Lying in wait for this very moment, the army of the Red Dragon, the rivals of the Black Dragon attacked.
They struck fast and viciously, killing every man, woman and child in the camp of the Black Dragon. The mighty Arcane himself was no match for the assault of the Red Dragon.
Barely 19 years of age, Atin returned from a month-long journey through the heart of the forest and over the mountains, only to find his home burned down, and his foster family murdered in cold blood.
Devastated by this loss, he shouted, and he shouted, bark and stone rumbled at the terrible power and emotion in his voice. Then... silence.
Atin spent 3 days and 3 nights recovering what was left of his friends and family and buried their remains.
Standing before the gigantic remains of a once great dragon, Atin swore to Arcane that he would rebuild the clan in his honour.
Atin did not have time to mourn, as a burning sensation erupted from deep within his heart. Revenge, striking down the monsters who had done this to his clan.
If only he had been here, he could have fought alongside his friends. He could have made the difference, he thought to himself.
He picked up his sword and ventured the land, in search for the perpetrators of the charred remains he once called home.
Had it been months, ...years, who could tell? Atin would not stop his pursuit of the hateful enemy he so eagerly sought to inflict judgment upon.
Eventually, after a many long marches, which felt like years had passed, Atin arrived at the ruins of an old fortress, neatly located between the mountain range. It seemed as if the stone walls and towers were melted by a great amount of heat.
Terrifying as the fortress might have seemed, Atin did not ponder. He had waited for this moment for a very long time.
And so he approached the fortress, quickly taking out the guards, before they could utter a single question, as to whom they might have before them.
Atin cut down the gates with his enormous sword and charged inside, striking down members of the Red Dragon cult left and right.
Mercilessly enacting judgement upon those who had done the same to his family and friends years prior.
Until a large shadow blot out the sun, and a roar was heard across the mountain range. The Red Dragon himself descended upon Atin, demanding his name, he roared fiercely.
Exchanging blows with the Red Dragon, Atin cut off one of his wings and injured the great beast's front legs, before climbing his back to prepare for his final blow.
"I am the Black Dragon." he declared calmly, before descending upon the Red Dragon's head and chopping it off cleanly.
None were left alive, and Atin returned to the place he once called home.
Meeting young men and women along his journey, he invited them to join him, and Atin slowly began to rebuild the Black Dragon clan.
