I honestly feel like criticism in the form of “you’re virtue signalling, purity testing, idealistic” is coming from people who want to present as leftists, but have more in common with liberals who are satisfied with the status quo. Whenever someone is actually radical and has principles they don’t want to compromise, the realpolitik comes out.

Elliott, thank you. 💜 I really needed this today after making a video about the dangers of generative AI in the Tarot space. I received an above average amount of pushback amongst the agreement. I plan to address it. A lot of it was defensive and ad hominem. I just found this video to be a great piece of food for thought for me at this moment where people are accusing me of being the purity police over something that is genuinely damaging to the wellbeing of creators and the planet.

I don't know. Maybe we have lost the ability to have difficult conversations with strangers. It wasn't a cancel video it was a call out video. A 'pay attention to whom you take money from and sell back to your audience' video . Not all money is good money. Your channel is a place where people come to hear these ideas and opinions. There seems to be this hypersensitivity around people and their favorite celebs. Where every callout is felt to be an attack to destroy. I wonder because there is so much rage online that many have just lost the ability to sit with difficult truths about our favs and by extension ourselves.

It's frustrating because people aren't taking you in good faith. In fact, they're making it seem like you want them on the street homeless. You literally said, just have red lines, consider not taking some sponsorships AND fundraise! Start a pateron! And also. It is a privilege to be a content creator, y'all aren't essential workers. 😭 We're all going through the affordability crisis, y'all aren't special, sorry! You do owe your audience to not sell them out to these nasty corporations that capitulated to Trump! Like damn, just have some red lines and don't take a sponsorship from BetterHelp or OpenAI or YouTube AI program. 😭 Funny enough, we've had this same conversation in the beauty space and we came the the same conclusion. Not sure why YouTube's online left is strangely butthurt.

I don't think the video was canceling people at all! We need to continue to call each other higher. We need to call each other back to integrity. If anyone misunderstands the true meaning of that vid its probably because they are projecting themselves onto those decisions and are afraid to reflect and do better

I find that people are so afraid to be authentic. It's refreshing, Elliot, to see you own your choices and mistakes and hold yourself accountable. That's very hard to do when interacting with a tool that makes it easy, even automatic, to surround yourself with consensus in every aspect, to the point where it becomes painful to be doubted or questioned. I'm impressed.

Can you critique a friend shilling for an MLM? Yes? Then you can criticize a professional for unethical sponsorships! Especially someone with a young audience. Updating your understanding is just part of the job, so the fragility is juvenile.
