sooo resonant & timely, especially post-pisces + leo eclipses . reminds me of the ku kiai mauna movement in hawaii where kanaka organized to protect mauna awakea (our ancestor -> kupuna + akua) from further desecration from a 30 meter telescope we were called “anti-science” . our indigenous knowledge which is passed through millennia through mele, oli, hula (chant, song, & dance)— formed from within deep relationships with the environment & elemental forms : akua / gods. yet our ike is deemed “magical” or “occult” -> like you said, as antithetical to “science” instead of witnessed within the both/and. maybe because english (& sometimes spanish with its heavy gendering although it’s more seductive sonically jaja) is full of either/or. this or that. olelo hawaii on the other hand has kaona— often holding double + hidden meanings. i want for our (oiwi) personal + collective pluriverses to be respected & entered with consent, humility & mutuality —because there is so much mana here. and yet continuously our worlds are made to feel “less real” because were often conditioned to possess + own rather than exist within & alongside, especially when it comes to difference. seems to me that the english language is full of universal subtext, that science is employed as another administrative doctrine which implicitly (& explicitly) dictates that plurality/pluriversality is pathology or (un)real, yet both can co-exist within the spectrum of ethical indigenous-led polyphony, and/or multiplicity. that’s the basis of hawaiian religion & spirituality as i understand it right now (as a beginner student). but all is embodied in Haumea, the infinite potential. Haumea kino papawalu, Haumea of 8-fold, 40,000 fold forms. they/she is both the i & the we. Haumea embodies possibility and discernment. in some stories she plots the stars & divines the most aligned paths + potential. in a spiritual battle-field of english linguistic thought that demands legibility, testimony & transparency, the reclamation of opacity that edward glissant writes about feels like an essential aspect of returning our collective Ea (breath, life, embodied sovereignty, air, arising) . & i imagine the fossilization prof. shyam writes about is like an ice-berg of entrenched concepts & script(ure)s. i feel endlessly fascinated by this too & this “linguistic account of thought” partially perhaps why i’m so into practicing techniques like trance, dialects, indigenous language, expressive movement w dance, acting, energy work, chant, rituals etc. just recently made a song embodying the archetype of namakaokahai, the akua whose the creator of fault lines in the earth. through the song i flow within decomposing the language, where the moral categories i begin the song with dissolve into phonetics. so without spoiling it or over-explaining, fault line isn’t something i’m just like, singing about. the fault line, or namakaokahai, is what (or who) the song enacts to language. https://on.soundcloud.com/MHlkw99HuWEczoLGsO (feel free to listen, if u want! i’d rly appreciate feedback if u have any.) on another note this reminds me why i feel so inspired by elizabeth frazer’s glossolalia vocals from the cocteau twins. the ability to invoke and evoke somatic sensation and sensory through tone, melody, rhythm, breath, relationship, and emotion without words is really enticing & meaningful to me. so ya! i feel really curious to keep learning how to move more towards what i’d imagine could be called the emotional experience of feeling rather than the linguistic account of thought ? food for thought, or feels. tehe. some oceanic piscean streams of consciousness. mahalo for sharing this is a lot to take in but i’m grateful, thanks for reading! i hope this could offer some additional reflections & ike 🪷
