Bonus 1: Does It Hold Up?

Dan and Jordan revisit some songs they remember liking but haven't listened to in a very long time to see if their memories are at all accurate. On the way, they open some items from the mailbag, and drink some children's seltzers.

From the mailbag (ziiiip...thank you, Josh):

I did not expect to agree more with Dan, on this one.

Something about being 40ish triggers music revisiting. I put on NOFX after 20 years and it was bad, but surprisingly No Use For A Name put out some great stuff I ignored, same w Lagwagon and Propagandhi. I’ve been deep into crate digging for the last decade or so and I totally have a Bob Wills record. Old Cowboy music and BeachHouse are my go-to’s.

As a native San Diegan, I grew up on pop-punk and it's still a genre I get into strongly from time to time. I disagree that Blink-182 is a terrible band but I am 100% on your side re: New Found Glory's cringe-inducing vocalist. Their singles were among my favorites as a kid but I can barely tolerate it now.

We need a pretentious music podcast with Jordan

Been a long time coming, but I finally joined up. This was a super fun after school episode even if I don't agree with Dan's musical tastes 😁. Looking forward to more

Controversial opinion, I still love My Friends Over You and Understatement. Being in middle/high school during the pop-punk era, I was all in on the genre. New Found Glory stood out for how truly bad his voice was, but the non-vocal music really hit the spot for me. I think my 13 year old brain compartmentalized the singing from the instrumental music. Fully agree on Linkin Park, my first real concert attended was Story of the Year, Hoobastank, P.O.D., and Linkin Park as the headliner in 2003 or 2004 I think. Lotta music that doesn’t hold up in that grouping, but damn if that concert didn’t rip.

the "all the goodbyes" at the end had me laughing so hard I cried, I'm not sure exactly why but I'm sure it's because im in the same age group as yall and remember that era

This was a fantastic idea for a bonus episode. Really enjoyed it while drinking a Waterloo Blueberry seltzer (I give it an 85!). Cheers dudes!

Now there is a RSS feed?!? You guys are ducking awesome! 🦆

Thank you- I can now listen via Downcast, so that solves my problem of not being able to skip forward or rewind.

Dan Friesen · October 16, 2020

I was unaware that there was the capability to put these on an RSS feed, but since this came to my attention, I've set that up. A message should be sent out shortly with a link to the feed

Stephen Joseph · October 16, 2020

I’m hating the Patreon podcast player - doesn’t seem to be any way to skip forward or back on it - just play and stop.

S
Sean RD · October 18, 2020

Just download it. If you're listening on your phone the jet audio app is great for podcasts. It's got sort, playlists, and skip forward and back 10 and 5 seconds (I believe you can configure it for different numbers of seconds).

Love this idea, thanks for being the best!

Awesome, thank you! If you have a chance and it's not too complicated, would you guy consider setting up the private RSS feed option for donors, please? The posts would still be available to everyone, but there would also be a way for donors to pull these posts into podcast players. Thanks for all the content, and considering!

I thought of you when they mentioned Green Day! Controversial opinions there. Do you have any comments in response?

Holy shit Jordan, you were WAY cooler than I was as a teenager if Robert Randolph is who you were listening to. Also, if you're drunk and Dammit comes on, and you don't start throwing yourself around in an attempt to create an impromptu circle pit, I'm going to assume you're a zombie. Philosophers, you can down tools, I've found the solution to the hard problem of consciousness.

This is awesome, but is there an RSS? I can't find one and my phone is annoying about downloads from patreon. Thanks and much love, guys!

T
Tyler · October 16, 2020

Looks like there's a setting for RSS feeds that they can enable. That would be great!
