Long Overdue Update
Hello all!
For a long time, I've resisted making sweeping changes to how we operate things because of feelings of familiarity with the process and not wanting to rock the boat, but that needs to change. As we grow, some of the ways we operate need to adapt, and we've been a bit too slow to realize that, but some might say "better late than never."
Our system for giving out shout-outs on a first-come-first-served basis made a lot of sense when no one was listening, and we didn't expect anyone to start. However, now there is a giant backlog of shout-outs we need to get to and no easy solution for how to get closer to current. We've tried a few things, but they didn't really help, and my ultimate goal of getting to current shout-outs by episode #500 is an impossible dream.
So what we're going to do is this: If you have not received your shout-out, and you are looking forward to it, send us a message on here and let us know. Also, please let us know the name you'd like us to use in the shout-out, and we will bump it to the front of the list. If you are okay with waiting a little while, or maybe you want to be surprised by a shout-out, then feel free to do nothing, and we'll get to your shout-out as the order progresses.
A second issue is the mailbox on this Patreon account. I posted a note on our profile that we are rarely on this account and that messages that get sent here are not read often, but ultimately, we need to do a better job with that. I have a lot of messages to get back to, but if you sent a message and did not get a reply, please feel free to send another message, and I promise a prompter response.
Also, we will post more stuff here to stay in better touch on this platform. Probably not any exclusive episodes, since we don't really like pay-walls, but there will be some treats here and there.
Thank you for supporting our project and thank you even more for being patient with us as we realize that we have growing pains and need to do something about them.

OMG Same. I always think it's an unwise choice, but Dan makes up for Alex by being so measured... and whenever he laughs, it makes me so happy!

So jealous of your plant growing! I hardly ever have luck with veggies. Oddly, it's the opposite with me - for me, herbs yes & veggies no. Although I did grow some kickass tomato plants from seeds.

I'm *pretty* sure you shouted me out back in like April but I've got a generic enough name it feels like I get shouted out all the time, so I'm good. Super stoked to see the fanbase growing in a way I never expected either; not because it isn't a great podcast, but I never figured anyone besides me would be willing to spend hundreds of hours listening to Infowars and Qanon analysis for fun, but damn glad am I to see this important info getting out there to an army of wonks. *alex voice* I love you.

Oh man, I feel bad—I messaged y'all on Twitter about my shoutout and didn't realize it was a whole thing. I'm listening chronologically from the beginning and am only on episode 80 or so, hence wasn't aware of how things had progressed since then. Sorry for adding any stress, and I'm fine waiting.
I am super excited for my shoutout, whenever it comes, because I'm a big fan :) It was an odd joy to hear my name on one of the mailbag ZZZIIIIIP forays; there is something really lovely in hearing the recognition of support. Maybe that makes me shallow, but I just enjoy the show so much and it feels wholesome to have appreciation be a mutual emotion for both listener and creator. So a full name Bex Richards shoutout would be awesome, but I don't expect it to be any time soon - I'm just happy that the podcast is successful to the degree that you hadn't planned for this level of engagement. That's an adorable bright spot. :)

Can I put a vote in for canceling the shout-out segment altogether? I don't need to hear my name spoken on a podcast. I can't be the only person out there mashing that skip button every time you get to that part of the show.
I think it's a little polarizing, but the responses I hear generally are much more in favor of keeping it, and I would feel a little weird stopping it at this point. I can also understand skipping through it, though, I assume people would do the same thing if we did ads
