What's new with payments on Patreon
To withdraw your Patreon funds and get paid use to require logging into Patreon on a computer, with no option other than withdrawing your full balance in its entirety all at once. And on the chance the withdrawal didn't complete, it may not have been clear what happened.
We've heard from creators that there was room to improve how payouts work, and we're excited to share updates to help more creators get paid in ways that work better for you. Read on to learn what's new with payouts.
Withdraw the exact amount you need
Previously, creators could only withdraw their complete balance. Now, you can decide what works for you, withdraw your full balance, or choose any amount of the available funds you want to transfer and keep the rest in your Patreon account — helpful if you're saving toward a specific goal or just prefer moving money in smaller chunks.
Please note: Partial payouts can be initiated once every 24 hours, and there’s a payout minimum limit, which varies depending on method, currency, and country. This is currently only available on desktop.
See exactly where your money is
Payout statuses now reflect what's actually happening with your withdrawal in real time, from the moment you initiate it to when it lands in your bank. If something goes wrong, you'll get a clear explanation of the issue and a suggested next step, instead of a failed status with no context.
Here's what each status means:
Complete: Your earnings are available in your account and ready to use.
Sent: Your earnings have been sent to your bank. Arrival time will vary depending on your bank.
Pending: Earnings are being processed and on their way.
Returned: The withdrawal didn't go through. Funds will return to your Patreon balance.
Incomplete: There was an issue processing the withdrawal. You may need to take action before it can be processed.
Coming soon: Payouts from your phone
You will soon have the option to initiate a payout directly from the Patreon mobile app, no computer required. Once you head to your creator home dashboard, a new payout section will appear. Click Withdraw, and you’re done!
Please note: Mobile payouts are rolling out on the Patreon iOS app over the next few months and will be coming soon to the Patreon Android app. Initially, you'll only be able to withdraw your entire account balance on your phone.
In some cases, you may not be able to withdraw from your phone until your account information is up to date — for example, if you still need to submit tax documents, verify your identity, or update your payout method.
The rest is on us
Payouts are just one piece of the picture. Patreon handles chargebacks, disputes, and fraud on your behalf so your earnings stay protected. If you lose a chargeback, Patreon absorbs the cost — you keep what you earned. We also take care of applicable tax collection and remittance, so you're not stuck managing sales tax, VAT, or compliance on your own, which other platforms push onto creators directly.
Additionally, because Patreon operates our own payments infrastructure rather than routing everything through a third party, we can investigate and resolve payout issues ourselves if something goes wrong. With support for 16 currencies on both pay-ins and payouts, plus fan-friendly options like PayPal, Apple Pay, and Venmo, you can earn from fans wherever they are in the world. Fantastic news! I’ve noticed recently that my balance is now the same between mobile and computer so that an improvement right there too!
That’s cool Patreon does taxes. Does that mean we shouldn’t claim this if we do our own taxes too? What does it mean? Also while we’re at it can you please tell me why the “monthly earnings” number fluctuates all over the map? I don’t understand Patreon math 😅
Hey Kaitie, just to clarify, that line is about sales tax/VAT collection and remittance, not personal income tax. For sales made through Patreon, we handle sales tax/VAT in most jurisdictions, but your own income taxes are still yours to manage. In most jurisdictions, the money you earn on Patreon is considered taxable income, so you'll generally still need to report it when you file your taxes. As for your monthly earnings fluctuating, that can happen for a few different reasons, including new signups, cancellations, payment declines, refunds, or billing timing differences. Right. Between the fees patreon takes and the taxes I owe at the end of the year, I don't make much. Not sure how long I'll stick with Patreon due to FEES and taxes. I might have to tell my subscribers I make so little that I can't afford the fees and taxes and may just resort next year to telling people I can only afford cash donations or checks to my PO BOX.

Hi Jiesan, you can use the Go to Payouts button at the bottom of this post, or you can navigate there directly from your creator account by opening the Payouts tab on the left side of your screen while you're on Your Page.

I have a question about Memberships. I just saw on Paralives' page (https://www.patreon.com/cw/alexmasse/) that it is possible to have a simple 'join' button, and then people can pay whatever they want to, or they can click the 3 dots to join for free. How do I get my page to do that? Right now, my page has a 'join for free' button, and below that a 'see membership options' button that gives them various choices. I would LOVE to just have a catch all button like Paralives, where people can input whatever they want. How? How do I do that? I love it.
Hi DanDann! Paralives page you're referring to is using a different membership setup. Because there aren't any tiers, members choose what they'd like to pay instead of selecting from tier options. If your page currently uses tiers, switching to that model would mean removing your existing tiers, which would also affect tier-specific benefits and any posts tied to tier access. Can we ask what you like most about that setup? Is it the simpler look, the "choose what you pay" option, or something else?
They take care for taxes? So are they they taking out sales tax on memberships?
Hey there! Yes, in most jurisdictions where sales tax, VAT, or similar taxes apply, Patreon collects and remits these taxes on memberships, so you don't have to manage that yourself.

Here’s a question - does Patreon earn interest on your account balance? If so - given that we creators are effectively the ones driving that revenue for you - how is this interest distributed? Because if we are creators are leaving our money in your account and helping you generate more funds, we should have access to that share that we’re helping you generate.

Honestly making me want to make Patreon my primary platform every day. The improved payment system is great, but the taking care of all the backend stuff is huge. Add all of the other ways you are supporting and backing creators and it’s awesome to see. My biggest concern at this point is that some megalosocial platform is going to acquire Patreon and make it a soulless husk like other platforms have become. Keep up the great work!

I have a question for other Patreon creators, or Patreon. A member cancelled today and left a very negative exit survey comment. The membership was paid annually, so although they cancelled, they still have access to my content until June 2027. My question is: Is there a way to completely remove a member’s access before the end of their paid membership period? If so, can this be done by issuing a refund, blocking the member, or through another Patreon feature? I am not looking to debate the feedback itself. I simply want to understand what options creators have when they no longer wish to have someone in their membership, even though that person technically still has remaining access time from a previous payment. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What happens to their access if you block them or issue a refund? Thank you for any advice.

Honestly the only improvement to payments I wish for would be to be charged less. The video on this shows someone with a balance of $6700. Some of us don't make that much in a year. I love Patreon and what it's allowed me to do as a creator, but I do wish you took less of my earnings. 😔
