A little update and a new "Sandwich" project!

Hello everyone, long time no see!

I mentioned before that I have three cats, and my mom has a dog. Last year I moved back home to live with her, so this dog is now mine as well. Recently, this 12-year-old male dog suddenly started vomiting blood and was taken to a pet hospital. After examination, he was diagnosed with severe pancreatitis, and the vet also suspects a possible pancreatic tumor. After treatment, the pancreatitis is now under control and has improved a lot, but the possibility of a tumor hasn’t been ruled out yet, and further check-ups will be needed later.

Because of caring for him and the treatment process, my kitchen project was put on hold for a while. But I’ve now resumed working on it. Working on the same project for too long can make me feel tired, so I’ve recently started mixing in some more fun things between my regular projects to keep my creative energy up—I call this the “sandwich filling”! I’ve heard that in the usual sandwich workflow, the difficult tasks go in the middle, while the “bread” is made of easier tasks. But I think the filling is the most enjoyable part, so I do the opposite: I put the tiring or confusing work on the “bread,” and keep the fun parts as the “filling.”

So today I’d like to introduce my “filling” project: a multi-mailbox parcel locker! The idea came from a player who is really good at building houses in The Sims 4. She suggested combining parcel lockers with functional mailboxes instead of making them purely decorative. I found that idea really interesting, so I started this little side project.

The image shows the high-poly model of the locker. The open compartments in the middle are reserved for two mailbox doors—I plan to reuse the mailbox animation so they can open and close. The lower compartments and the parcels inside are decorative and will be presented as a mailbox swatch. As for the central screen, I’m planning to create pickup notifications or switchable simulated ads.

The next challenge will probably be designing those ad graphics, since I’m not very good at drawing posters in The Sims style!

Wishing you all the best! I used machine translation, so please excuse any inaccuracies.

I'm sorry for everything going on and hope your dogs prognosis comes soon. This sandwich process is also how I keep myself motivated when faced with a big task or difficult events but I have to/want to keep going. I learned mine from writing; those shorter in-between chapters are called chip chapters so I'd have called this a chip project. Same idea different name. I'm glad you've put your mind to this. It's helped me in the past so I know it will help you keep going.
