As a person that speaks Andrew, I agree with him about the fries.

The french fry is a type of fry... fry is the clarifying word. hence FRENCH fry, STRAIGHT CUT fry, CRINKLE CUT fry. I understand the Andrew fry point. The better comparison for the ice cream thing would be one store has scoop ice cream, one has bars, and another has soft serve. You walk into any of them and order "ice cream", they will all give you their version of ice cream. I don't agree that fries and French fries are the same thing.

I hate the potato thing cause I side with Andrew and I feel like it might be just a bit at this point to disagree with him, cause he made so much since in the example of a place and if feels like they have to be gaslighting not understanding. If I go to McDonalds and older a fry I will get their version of fry but if I go to say a local place called Big Alls and order a fry, their fry is a steak cut. Or if I go to a fancy place down town from me I would get waffle cut if I order fried because its all that's all they have. So saying fries mean nothing if a place has a set cut

The French in French fries is for how it’s fried. Gavin was so close they are not frenched fries, they are French fried potatoes. At his base point, I think Andrew is right, and “French fries” did require specification, which Gavin did.

I don't really see how Andrew's point is not immediately addressed by just...looking at menus. McDonald's says french fry. Wendy's says french fry. Go to a random diner, open the menu, and they will probably describe the item Gavin is picking as "french fry". French fry could be broader, but if you say french fry, as opposed to waffle fry, curly fry, etc you know what you're getting. He says Gavin isn't "fry literate" while ignoring that...basically everyone agrees these things are called french fries. Same with potato chips. You can have variations of them, but there is an item that is just an ordinary potato chip. Though there I'm a bit confused by his argumet also because he didn't demand "mashed potatoes with chicken gravy", "cheesy mashed potato", and "mashed potato with brown gravy" were seperate items, it seems like we're ok with stuff having different flavorings added...until potato chip.
