Sometimes it's our own lack of self esteem that makes us feel like people standing up for what's right are wrong or expecting too much.

This breaks my heart! I can't believe your mum would go behind your back like that, I feel this is heavily hinting she's going to take AJ to see his grandpa. I sure hope my gut feeling is wrong!

It is really heavy stuff for sure, but I feel like the topics are really important to talk about and are very real.
It is upsetting when a family parent cannot trust their son/daughter's decision. Just as you said, self-esteem blinds them to what's right and wrong. :(
As well as not seeing the growing problems of applying some traditional nuclear family values that are not a given and should not be a given in our society, like one's entitlement to see a son/daughter or grandchild.
That would be both grands being banned from the house if she takes him to see the granddad.
