Flixxs 6.0 Public Preview

Hi all, and thank you for your patience.

It’s been around 2 months since 5.5, and I know it’s taken a while, but 6.0 was never going to be a small update. I don’t do half updates, and moving from 5.5 to 6.0 needed to be something you can instantly see and feel.

During this time I’ve been working on multiple releases, while also slowly refining 6.0 in the background. Once you go through this post, you’ll understand why it took longer.

Same time, same skydome, same conditions.

6.0 immediately shows richer, more accurate colour, but this isn’t just boosted contrast or saturation.

This is powered by my brand new tonemap, Flixxs Hybrid.

It calculates and maps colour far more accurately, resulting in
• More natural tones
• Better highlight handling
• A much more cinematic image without overprocessing

Again, identical setup.

• 5.5 uses the older Soir colour grade
• 6.0 uses the new City Life colour grade

This new grade is calibrated to the point where it can genuinely be used for real life DLOG footage, and it shows.

Combined with the new tonemap and updated defaults, 6.0 produces
• Deeper colour depth
• More life in the scene
• A true movie like output

Where 5.5 looks flatter, 6.0 reacts properly to lighting and environment.

This is one of the biggest differences.

Most filters
• Make overcast scenes too bright
• Wash everything into a grey tone

But in reality, overcast conditions are
• Darker
• Heavier
• More shadow driven

6.0 correctly calculates this.

Even using the more subtle OEM+ color grade, it
• Keeps realism intact
• Adds depth without overdoing it
• Feels closer to real world lighting behaviour

5.5 vs 6.0

This isn’t me saying 5.5 is bad, it isn’t.

But 6.0 does everything 5.5 did, just properly refined and expanded.

The new Hybrid Tonemap also unlocks
• More realistic taillight behaviour with AGX style response
• Full control so you can still match the 5.5 look if you want

New UI

The UI has been completely reworked.

Moving away from
• Overloaded tabs
• Cluttered layout

Into
• A clean, modern design
• More intuitive controls
• A better overall user experience

This is just the foundation and it will continue improving.
