I'm going to say this once and then let it go.
My game is free. All I ask for is five days. Five. This isn't a Steam release made by a studio with a budget and a team of experienced people, it's five days of early access to something you'll be able to play for free anyway. And even that doesn't get respected.
Version 0.9 leaked two days after release.
The leak itself isn't what got to me the most. It was seeing it happen in my own thread.
There were people here asking others to respect the five days, and I genuinely appreciate that. But there were also people who claim to support the project posting screenshots of the latest version, keeping the conversation going, and pointing out exactly which site it leaked on.
If you actually support this, was it that hard to just stay quiet? I wasn't asking anyone to defend me. I was asking you not to feed the topic, not to hand people a map to go find it. That's not support. It's the opposite.
This is directed at those people. Not at the ones who respected the five days and stayed out of it.
And the other thing.
You played a leaked version, for free, and you still come here to criticize it. If you'd actually supported the project, I'd take the criticism gladly and apologize for not meeting your expectations, that's your right. But coming here to lecture me about what I should be doing with my own game when you didn't put a single dollar into it, no.
Let me be clear about something: this isn't about money. The project is doing well, better than it ever has, and I owe that to the people who support it. This is about my peace of mind. Every time I release an update I spend the following days waiting for the moment it shows up leaked somewhere, and I don't want to work like that anymore. I'd rather earn less and release in peace.
That's why I'm seriously considering changing the model: every update goes public from day one, no early access, and anyone who subscribes does it to see previews and support the project as a donation, not to play early. Nothing is decided yet, but that's where this is pushing me.
I know some people are going to be annoyed by what I've said here. That's fine. I try to be decent with everyone, and sometimes it feels like that gets taken as an invitation.

So many people play and enjoy your game, and then go on to support you financially—there’s even a link to your Patreon in the game menu. It was through a free site that I found out about it, and now I’m going to get the €10 subscription next month because I really like the game. A lot of people like me have subscribed for that reason; it generates a huge amount of publicity for you—perhaps more than you realize—and brings in new subscribers. I’m supporting you because I enjoy it—because I love your game. There are plenty of people like me who started out with the free version and then wanted to support you because they love the game.

Seen some creators have their game use discord login to get into the game. No idea how they set that up and it did prevent leaks.

This is genuinely terrible, like who actually does that bro . But also one way to mitigate this is possibly to change releases to a higher tier so that people who leak will be forced to pay more - in order to disincentivise that - and keep lower memberships as screenshot or release teases? Just an idea for thought, but hope you are doing well and aren't letting it get you 🙏❤️

I think you should look into adding a verification system that require you to connect your Patreon account to unlock game. Another creator I follow recently did that and his updates effectively stopped getting leaked.

This is actually despicable, I've been a fan and an off and on supporter of your games this entire time and to see people do this, and with the reasoning you provided is, not just disrespectful it showcases why they don't deserve nice things, you're one of the better creators out there and so many other creators lose motivation because of horrific things like this happening to them, so whatever happens I hope this will not deter you in making games, I love your games after all

Lamentablemente hay una que otra ratita, la neta que 5 días no es mucho, he aportado a tu proyecto siempre, me niego a hacerlo de manera pirata porque a diferencia de otros creadores tú eres respetuoso, cumples con las fechas y si hay atraso lo comunicas, cosa que varios otros no. Ojala la próxima actualización ocurra sin problema y de no ser así se entenderán las medidas que decidas tomar.
I'm just a new member that subscribe because I really want to play the latest update. After playing it, shared my thoughts of how I really like the update but as vague as possible to not have any spoilers, and did not open the site after 2 days. Received this message just now and checked, and the game has already been leaked. It was just 5 days of wait, not even the 2 weeks. Sigh.. Apologies brother, hope this won't dampen your motivation to continue this game. We want you to know that there are others that truly supports your work and really follows your request. Can't wait for the next update!
