A new plan
I’m going to slightly change up my publishing schedule as follows:
Create widescreen videos for each question and publish them on Patreon. Patron’s get early access and the chance to tell me if something makes no sense or if the pace is off and the music is too loud.
When I have completed an episode (like the godzilla missing arc I just finished) I will publish the whole thing to YouTube.
I then publish the parts of the episode to all the other platforms, while working on the next one.
I aim to do two questions a week, and each episode normally has 4-6 questions, and sometimes a conclusion part which is a bit different. So that should lead to an episode every 2-4 weeks (building in a little buffer for occasional laziness).
This is partly to encourage people to become Patrons or watch on YouTube (the only platform that pays me for views). But also I think I can create better paced more cohesive episodes this way, and hope it will result in a higher quality end product.
In a lot of ways I’ve been treating these videos as a kind of extended first draft, throwing every idea I have out there and not letting my artistic limitations or a desire for perfection get in the way. I don’t want to stop that, I just want to give myself a chance to land those ideas in the best way I can.
If you think this plan sucks or have any suggestions for making it better I'm all ears.

I like the shorter insta stories. However I really despise insta greed and want to abandon it so bad. I'll watch the YouTube videos instead in smaller doses, as the little stories seem to linger in my brain nicely
Great!
Sounds like I joined at the right time 😎
Seems like a good plan. Recently I found that I don't like when I see your videos on TikTok (where I've been hooked up). First, your videos are too complex to be in the stream of dumber entertainment for me. I need to watch them separately, when I have proper mood for the complex stuff. In this case, I can focus and get it better. Second, TikTok misses some and shows them in random order. Patreon is much better, because here I only support creators most important to me.
Thanks! Yeah I've found that a lot of the platforms have that problem, the videos either go viral or only get shown to like 10% of my followers. Then it one performs a bit better and they start showing the people who liked that old ones. Often compilations of good answers to a bunch of questions do better on those algorithmic platforms than the actual videos. I get it, their easier to follow and digest, but I don't want them to be the main focus, they can be a byproduct of the series I use to push people towards the actual thing.
I'm just here to support!
I love the YouTube collections, personally, so this is great. I do wish they had a title card or something else to mark the moment between questions
I'm in favour of whichever creative method you find results in the best end results. Personally I prefer tiktok and shorter videos released in short succession so that I can remember where we are in the story, watching the longer arcs on YouTube can be a bit intense as there is so much to think about and it's so densely packed, plus I've probably already seen most of the segments already
Yeah, I get that. I'll still publish the short segments as I do on the other platforms, so if you ignore youtube, nothing will change except they'll now be a few weeks with no new content. One of the goals of doing it like this is to make the pacing a bit better for the longer videos, I kind of copied the tiktoker fast talk style and that doesn't translate well into a ten minute video, it just becomes too much.
That sounds like a really good idea! I can’t wait to see how it will work, but I’m sure it will be awesome.
Sounds sensible. Out of curiosity, do you use YouTube shorts at all? I mostly watch your videos through TikTok and I think they lend themselves perfectly to that platform because they are so narratively dense that I often watch them multiple times in a loop until I feel I have understood them to the best of my ability. It sucks that you don’t get paid for views on TikTok, though, so I was wondering if it’s any different with YouTube shorts.
Now that shorts have increased the time to 3 minutes the videos do get sorted there, but I've yet to get any traction in the algorithm. You make very little money for shorts unless you get multiple millions of views anyway though, even if they matched the numbers I do on TikTok or Instagram it would be tens of dollars. If the longer videos did those numbers it would be hundreds. I'm not super worried about getting paid loads by youtube though, if doing it this way doesn't make a massive difference it's not a big deal, but if rushing short clips out is causing me to not make the best thing I could make AND not leading to any financial gain then there's no harm in trying something different.
This is great, I can't wait :D
