(Dev Scroll VIII) — The Ludus, Poll Results & Chapter 3.3 Release Date

Children of Cradle, cursed and consecrated alike,

The circle turns again. The auction has ended, the chains have tightened, and the fate of our poor Orphan is sealed. Or is it? For now, the road leads downward into the Ludus.

⚖️ The Patron Poll

At first glance, one might have thought The Harrowing had triumphed. The overall number of voters leaned slightly in its favor… yet the balance was deceptive. The Ludus stands victorious, its claim carried not by numbers, but by the weight of the higher circles. The Kültists, Sorcerers and High-Throne made their will known. It seems fitting, doesn’t it?

The arena is no democracy. Only strength and scheming decides what lives and what dies.

So, the Ludus it shall be.

If you want my earnest thoughts, Dearest Patrons, I would've been content to pursue either route. But now that the decision is made, it feels good to refocus on the Gladiator's path. It's visceral, exciting, and slightly more fast-paced than the alternative route.

🜁 The Work of Reforging

With every new update, Orphan grows: more choices, more characters, more corruption. But growth without refinement becomes unwieldy; like a hydra with too many heads, or a blade sharpened on only one edge.

So let me speak plainly about the road ahead:

From this chapter onward, each update will include a return to something old.
A scene, a sequence, a moment - erotic or otherwise - chosen and reforged with the character traits that were introduced in Chapter 3.2's new chargen system.

Many of you play through Orphan multiple times, some with every new update. Many more join the story every month. I want the early chapters, the moments that first pull you into Cradle, to rise with the same ambition and clarity as the newer ones.

These aren't necessarily full rewrites, but...

A refinement.
A re-alignment.
A ritual revisitation.

There are scenes I wrote when this project was young; scenes that now deserve sharper teeth, deeper intimacy, and stronger integration with your character’s emerging identity.

Every update, I will return to one of these moments.
Tighten it. Expand it. Align it with the living state of the game.

Because the world of Orphan is not static. Cradle is a growing city, an ever-shifting labyrinth. And as more readers descend into it, I want the earliest corridors to feel as dark, polished, and deliberate as the newest ones.

This is my ongoing vow:
As Orphan expands, it will also deepen.

⚔️ The Gladiator Ludus

The Ludus is not merely a new location.
It is a new life; one carved in blood, sweat, and spectacle.

As we enter Chapter 3.3, we’re no longer at the mercy of the Auction’s opulence.
We descend instead into a world where the rules are older, stricter, and far less forgiving. The Ludus is a place that breeds champions and feeds the colosseum its endless appetite.

I’m genuinely looking forward to returning to this stage of Cradle. The last true gladiatorial scene was early in the saga: bloody, raw, primal. But now the story is older, and you've already survive once. A return to the sand will hit differently this time.

But first, you must learn the rhythms of the Ludus. Here, you'll meet:

  • Instructors hardened by decades of violence

  • Veterans amongst the gladiators; potential rivals, ambitious and eager to test you

  • Allies, whose loyalty may be genuine… or bought

You might be wondering about others who had already bled their way into the story.
Familiar faces such as Gant, Khalika, even Stavrick... or Fredrick. Well, their paths may intersect with yours sooner than you may think.

⛓️ A Slave’s Freedom & A Master’s Cage

Despite Cradle’s cruelty, the slave caste is vast. So vast it has become a world within the world. Their chains are real, but their movements are not always restricted. In many sections of Cradle, gladiators and slaves enjoy a strange, precarious freedom.

They can walk the streets. Trade, share food, laugh, scheme.

And within Livia’s Ludus, this freedom is magnified. These men and women are valuable; she invests in them. Some are treated better than freemen. Others… far worse. This means the Ludus won’t be a simple prison. It will be a breeding ground for relationships: alliances, mentorships, rivalries, lovers, threats, and whispered opportunities.

Who you befriend will matter. Who you anger will matter more. And do not forget your buyer.

The woman who purchased you:
Livia, Alesia, Sibylla, or Novia — will color the politics of every corridor you walk.

Some nobles will want your rise. Others will want your ruin.
And at least one may want… well, something more intimate.

You may be a gladiator now, but your story is still bound to the whims of highborn blood.

🕯️ The Future Ahead

The Ludus is the beginning of a much larger descent—your rise, your ruin, or both.
Thank you, as always, for your devotion, your votes, and your faith in what we’re building here

As always, your voices help shape this path as much as mine does. If you have questions about the Gladiator Route, the Ludus, the rewrites, or the road beyond Chapter 3.3, you're welcome to reach out.

I’m always present in the Discord, lurking in the catacombs. If you wish for a short Q&A session, or a thread where I answer questions about world-building, characters, or development, let me know. If enough of you want it, I’ll make it happen.

Chapter 3.3 releases on November 27th, exactly two weeks from today.

Two weeks remain. Sharpen your blades.
Steady your breath. Prepare for the descent.

🩸 Onward.
