This month, I’ve been challenging myself with several pure cosplay photoshoots as part of my effort to improve my lighting techniques.

Lately, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some incredibly skilled photographers, and their work has truly inspired me.

Since starting my ROM projects, I’ve prioritized getting good results quickly, which has caused my technical growth to plateau a bit.

So I’ve been actively trying to explore current trends and adopt new techniques.

One area I’ve been especially focused on is studying “Chinese-style lighting,” as well as experimenting with the aesthetics of a new generation of photographers—like using backlighting without a strong key light on the face.

I’ve been trying to adapt these styles to my own cosplay photography.

There’s definitely been some progress, but now I face a new challenge: achieving strong visual results while using these advanced lighting techniques.

Limited studio space often forces me to revert to my usual setups, so I realize I still need to train myself more—especially to build lighting setups quickly and confidently, even in tight environments.

And now, for something a bit more personal—

I recently visited the newly opened “Sukesan Udon” in Tokyo.

I absolutely love udon, and while my favorites have usually been Sanuki-style places like Yamashita Honki Udon (Shibuya), Tokyo Light Blue, and Goro, I have to say I was really surprised by how good Kyushu-style udon is!

The noodles are soft but chewy, and the broth was beautifully fragrant and flavorful.

I highly recommend the niku-gobo-ten udon (beef & burdock tempura)—the way the tempura soaks up the broth was absolutely amazing!
