In November, I visited the Aqua World Ibaraki Prefecture Oarai Aquarium and the fishing port for a meal!

Aqua World Ibaraki Oarai Aquarium is different from places like Sunshine Aquarium or Sumida Aquarium, as it focuses more on fish commonly found in Japanese waters, many of which you would typically see at sushi restaurants. While it’s exciting to see exotic fish that you don’t find in Japan, it’s also quite moving to watch the fish we usually eat, swimming and alive.

Additionally, the aquarium has put a lot of effort into showcasing sharks, with various species and an exhibition space that any shark lover would adore.

The sea lion and dolphin show was outstanding, but I made a major mistake. I thought I had pressed the record button, but it didn’t actually start recording. I was super excited since I don’t usually see dolphin shows at the aquariums I go to, and when I tried to stop the recording, I accidentally started it instead. It was such a disaster! I guess I’ll just have to go again. I’ve never seen such talented sea lions before.

Initially, I planned to finish the aquarium in the morning and have lunch at the fishing port, but I got so absorbed in the exhibits that I left the aquarium at 2:00 PM. By then, the last order at my first-choice restaurant had already passed. So, I went to my second-choice restaurant, where I had a wonderful seafood bowl. I was still hungry, so I tried the monkfish soup at a place serving grilled seafood at the port. It was my first time having monkfish soup, and I was blown away by its rich, savory flavor. I’ve had monkfish hot pot before, but the soup, which includes mashed liver to enrich the broth, was simply amazing. I definitely want to have it again next year.

November also saw me taking part in several outdoor shoots and studio filming. The outdoor shoots included early morning walks in leggings and an outdoor cosplay shoot. I’ll be able to show you the leggings walk video soon, but unfortunately, I made a mistake during that shoot as well.

For the previous morning walk with Amaechi, I shot using Sony's Picture Profile 10 (HLG). HLG is great for preserving shadow details, but it tends to overexpose highlights. The sky was a bit blown out last time, so this time, I shot using the Log profile, which helps prevent both black and white clipping. Log video shooting is common, but it has some restrictions: you can't lower the ISO below 800, and the live view makes it harder to imagine the final look. However, if the camera is properly set up, it’s easier to adjust color and brightness during post-production, which is very convenient.

Well… turns out I made a mistake in the settings. When shooting in Log, it’s essential to use 10bit, but I used 8bit instead. Shooting in Log with 8bit causes noticeable noise in the shadows. It was a big lesson for me, but I’ll be posting content with this footage soon, so you’ll see it soon enough.

I’m feeling nervous since it’s been a while, but I’ve been given a prime spot, so I’m going to put my all into creating the works.

Cosplay ROM Circle Operation Guide

... A "How-to" book covering everything you need to know to run a cosplay ROM circle: what you need, what to do, what to be careful about, and what to be mindful of.

(This guide is mainly aimed at photographers who are already doing cosplay shoots, but it will also include information relevant to cosplayers and models.)

I’ll also be bringing a few packaged ROMs.
