Why do I do things the way I do?

Hi.

I decided to take a break from creating scenes to dig deeper into something I mentioned a few days ago, but since it was just a comment inside another one, it's likely almost nobody saw it.

This came up because of a post I made on F95, and I think it's a really good idea to explain it more in depth here, with the people who follow me and who matter the most.
I shared part of what I'm doing right now in version 0.6b over there, and someone told me it was overkill, that I'm making a simulator...
Let me start all over again.

On Safe mode (version 0.6a) there's one scene in particular that perfectly shows all the work behind this, and that's why I showed it over there... yeah, marketing, and as usual, misunderstood by some F95 folks... xD

The scene of the first 4 women reaching the finish line in Safe mode is something programmed to happen in a certain way, and it will always be like that. That scene has no variations.
That specific scene is made up of 17 images showing the whole arrival process while MC and Kaoru talk, watching the girls reach the finish line one by one.

In Normal mode that same situation has to have 24 variations, each one reflecting the 24 possible arrival orders, since that order, because of the participants' stats, is completely random. Any of the 4 has the same chances of finishing in first, second, third, or fourth place.

How do I know there are 24 possibilities? It's more or less simple math. The calculation for the possible arrival orders among 4 different individuals is always like this: 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 24

On September 5th, 2024, in a post for all members, I explained how the calculation of some things during this first competition would work. Yep, more than a year and a half ago.

Some things mentioned in that post had to change to speed things up a bit. For example, Karen no longer exists and she was being taken into account for some explanations... but the base is still the same. Only the first 4 matter, just like the last 4.

But let's focus on the first 4, since they’re the ones that’ll take the most work. Why 4 and not more? There are 16 women running, why not include all of them for everything?
Again, math. Adding just one extra person makes the possibilities skyrocket…
5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 120

If I add a sixth one, it’s just ridiculous: 6 × 5 × 4 × 3 × 2 × 1 = 720

That’s the calculation of possibilities… and I’ve kept it in mind from the very beginning because it’s a delicate matter. I’ve done what’s necessary to keep it under control, but it’s still a huge amount of work.
First, according to the stats, there are actually 6 girls who have the same chances of finishing in the top spots, and for obvious reasons I had to exclude two from the calculations, making them have a little incident fitting the type of competition and in line with their personalities.
Those who played 0.6a already know who I’m talking about.
Because of that incident, both were left out of the list, leaving us with just 4… and you’ll remember I said the scene of the women reaching the finish line is made up of 17 images.

17 × 24 = 408

That 408 is how many images need to be rendered just to reflect the 24 possible versions of the full scene. I might be able to find a way to skip a few images as I go. But even then, I can’t cut down the number too much, plus I need to add changes, swap poses occasionally, and change camera angles so it doesn’t feel repetitive.

On F95 someone suggested I shouldn’t render anything, and just somehow show the results.
NOPE, not a chance. If I’m putting competitions in a game, you need to see the end of the competition. Otherwise, why the hell am I making a game with competitions?
It’s not the same playing something with sound or without sound, it’s not the same reading or skipping text when comprehension depends on it, and it’s not the same competing, making the player feel part of it, only to then say, "ok, next scene, the finish line doesn’t matter, here are the results…"
That’s just wrong.

That’s also where the idea that I’m making a simulation came from. Again, Nope xD
I’m just creating the finish line arrival this way and, to some extent, not fully, the last 4 girls. In between all that is the usual AVN stuff with choices to make. Some variable changes, temporary stat changes, dialogue and scene variations based on what you decided, along with programmed scenes with some programmed variations, and it’s decided randomly which variation is shown.

I’m a person who thinks things through beforehand, I analyze the pros and cons as much as I can… and sometimes, like everyone, I make mistakes no matter how much I think, like that vote I should never have done. But this wasn’t one of those mistakes. Everything has its reason, logic, math.
So what was meant to be a show of confidence in what I’m doing ended up with people not understanding it anyway xD

Okay, time for a strong coffee and then back to DAZ… Take care 😄

Simulating the result based on stats is such a fresh take that I haven't seen before! Part of me (the part that does mathematical simulations for a living) loves it! The other part, the one who thinks the story is the most important part of an AVN, would have been just as happy with you deciding on an outcome and rendering it once...but whatever makes you happy!

Yes, the story matters... and the competitions are part of it because they determine when a character vanishes from the map every now and then. Please, whatever you do, don't forget that little detail. Someone is going to die because of poor performance in those contests. It's up to me (depending on who it is) to let them die, shift things around (there’s often room for others to step in and do what someone else was supposed to), or find a way to save them. Someone will die, and even I don't know who it'll be because that depends on the competitions you choose and on pure luck.

Are you saying that the first and last four are chosen randomly, but the eight in the middle are fixed? By the way, using your formula to make the result of the 16 completely random, the possibilities are… 20,922,789,888,000. That's a little less than 21 trillion. You lazy dev 🤣! Although it would need to be multiplied by 17 to determine the exact number of renders ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Some people never know what levers need to be pulled and set to make things work right. All the behind the scenes work you do shows up in the attention to detail you provide. Just remember all people have opinions, just reflect on constructive comments that are not outright impossible to achieve. Strive for excellence my friend, because perfect will bankrupt the effort.
