Lucky... this time.
I live in the capital of Chile, Santiago. Santiago currently has about 7 million inhabitants. Divide that by 4 and you get the approximate number of homes in the city. It's about 1,750,000 homes... Of that number, there are now more than 716,000 homes without electricity. I'm not one of them. I was lucky.
A historic gale hit us last night and this morning. It destroyed hundreds of trees and the trees fell on the power lines, leaving more than a third of Santiago's homes without power. Climate change is a serious thing and it's here to stay.
Do you remember that a while ago my house lost power? That was about a month ago and it was due to the intense rains. We had more than 10 years of drought and suddenly we had a memorable downpour.
Now, our highest wind speed in history was 76 kilometers per hour. This morning we had wind gusts of up to 124 km/hr...
So now you know. If for some reason I disappear for a few days longer than expected, blame the weather or the earthquakes (remember that Chile is always neck and neck with Japan for the title of the most seismic country in the world).
I will continue rendering, see you and be careful with the trees ๐
