DC Task Force Progress
This weekend, I finished the code for the entire selected-NPC system—originally featuring 9 options per character. However, feeling a few options were missing, I spent the last two days bumping that number up to 11. Why not 15, 20, or just letting players choose anyone? Complexity increases exponentially, and I can already notice the impact on load times on my PC, so we’re sticking with 11.
What’s been done over the last two months:
- New color schemes for all characters, enemies, NPCs, and objects.
- New HUD with smaller, transparent portraits.
- Individual levelup for each character
- The entire new NPC system.
- Central City included as a city map.
- 2 new tutorials to start the game with Flash or Hal Jordan.
- Gameplay updated for half the roster.
What’s left:
- Finish updating character gameplay (I’m currently at the letter 'L').
- Split the mission originally set in Central City into two separate missions and create new areas for them.
- A bonus or extra mission for Central City.
- Make Apokolips a visitable location to face Steppenwolf after recruiting Darkseid.
Only then will I focus on new characters; I currently have 3 confirmed—who are actually already included in the NPC code:
- Vigilante
- Guy Gardner
- Swamp Thing
If everything goes smoothly (and no new ideas pop up like the NPC one that made me pause my plans to implement it immediately) I should start working on Vigilante this month. Ribeiro has already finished the sprites, so I should be sending the character for testing by the end of the month or early October.
Thanks for the support, and sorry for the long post!
See you soon with more updates.

You could make Amazo, and have it do random powers like you did with Morph in MIW.
Y'know this does make me kinda wonder what precisely affects load times in OpenBOR, 'cause by all accounts it should be a very, very light engine but most games made in it seem to have a surprisingly low content threshold before they start slowing down in some way... It's really weird, makes me wish I were an actual programmer so I could crack it open and see what's going on in there.
New characters to consider Dr. Fate, Captain Atom, Power Girl, Booster Gold, Etrigan, Deadman, Star Girl as far as heroes. For villains Deathstroke, Killer Frost, Silver Banshee. Would the Spectre be too OP? I don't know how you feel about the Watchmen characters I know a lot of people weren't thrilled with them being made a part of DC main continuity.
