Repairs on the Outer Ring
She finished recalibrating the wall panel with a soft click, the maintenance room lights shifting from warning amber to a steady, reassuring white. Straightening up, she placed her hands on her hips for a moment, stretching out the stiffness from working in tight spaces. Her build made squeezing through service ducts a bit of a puzzle sometimes, but she’d long ago learned how to angle, turn, and pivot with practiced efficiency. The sleek blue fabric of her uniform flexed as she moved, designed to handle long shifts and constant motion without restricting her stride.
With the job done, she headed for the observation hallway, boots echoing softly in the quiet corridor. As the doors slid open, natural light from the viewing panels washed over her, and she slowed to a relaxed walk. Beyond the glass, a vast green planet rolled beneath the station—thick forests, curling rivers, and drifting clouds painted in brilliant color against the black of space. She paused there, hands resting at her sides, simply taking in the view. After hours of wires and metal walls, the living world below felt like a reward.
