TROGDOR'S MONDAY THOUGHTS #16

Recently, I've been thinking about my stories, and how they fit into the greater erotica landscape that exists today.

Specifically the level of narrative complexity I aim for...and whether or not it's warranted, or even desired.

When I write, I'm not simply aiming to titillate, but to also provide something thought provoking, intriguing, surprising even. I want it to be humorous, emotional, engaging. I want the story to resonate, for the narrative to be something that pulls you in, not as something that simply exists as a skeleton for repeating scenes of escalating expansions. (I do very much want those to exist, don't get me wrong. I have no intention of ceasing writing about giant tits and bellies)

But is that what my readers want?

I mean, I certainly hope so.

I hope when you open up one of my stories, you don't roll your eyes as you sift through pages of exposition and setup just to get to the 'Good Stuff'. I'd be sad if you didn't take the time to appreciate the hard work I put into all of that background material that supports those scenes, but at the same time I would understand why you would feel that way.

All that is to say...I sometimes worry that perhaps there isn't enough "porn" in my porn, if you catch my meaning.

I think it's fair to say that the percentage of erotic text as a subset of the total has dropped over the years. If you read some of my very first stories, there's maybe three or four pages of cursory introduction and then it dives into lewdness. As a consequence the stories were also a lot simpler.

Comparatively, more and more often in my recent stories we're looking at a minimum of 10 pages, sometimes more, before anything of that natures happens, and sometimes there are frequent breaks in the action. The past few episodes of Templeton's Three, for example, have almost no expansion occurring until the climax.

Do I regret this change? No. I see the development in my writing style as an evolution of my skills. I'm quite proud of the writing I've produced in recent months, but the concern did cross my mind that perhaps some of you may feel that you aren't getting the same type of content that you originally signed up for.

Then again, perhaps not. Perhaps I'm simply over worrying, and all of you are perfectly happy; it wouldn't be the first time. Still, I'd be curious to hear what you all have to say on the matter.

Cheers!
