OP17.5 Meta Report: Post-Mihawk Ban
Introduction
This is our first week analyzing 1B+ data from high-rank matches since Mihawk was banned. With almost a full week of results, we’re getting a clearer picture of how the meta is shaping up at the top level.
The Top 10
1. Blue Xebec
With Mihawk gone, Xebec is back on top. Consistency and a big hand still pay off enormously at high rank, and its matchup spread is excellent, with almost no bad matchups. It doesn’t get free wins against opponents with a real plan, and a few decks can give it trouble, but pilot skill usually edges those out. It’s the deck to beat.
2. ST30 Luffy & Ace
ST30 continues to prove it’s a real contender at this level. The open question was always whether its matchup spread would hold up in practice, and the high-rank data says it does. It boasts an excellent win rate and dominates most of the field, though it struggles against Xebec and Sabo.
3. Red/Black Sabo
Sabo is excellent on raw power, and that carries straight over when strong players pick it up. It performs well against most of the field, with Blue Xebec as its main problem.
4. Black Luffy
Black Luffy’s cost-manipulation angle is unique in the format, and its best pilots post excellent numbers. It’s one of the hardest decks to play correctly, and correct play is doing a lot of the work.
5. Purple/Yellow Robin
The pairing works the way it looks like it should. Yellow gives purple’s ramp a safety net, and purple gives yellow’s shell something worth ramping into. Its good draws don’t depend on the opponent stumbling; they simply produce a board the opponent has to answer on schedule.
6. Purple Kaido
Kaido has a good matchup spread and a payoff ceiling high enough that a slow start isn’t fatal. There’s nothing structurally wrong with the deck. It’s a strong choice for a pilot who knows when to commit.
7. Purple Enel
Enel is stable and well understood. Its cheap bodies grow into real threats over consecutive turns, opponents overspend trying to keep up, and once its win conditions stick, removing them takes real work.
8. Blue/Yellow Boa Hancock
One of the least established deck in the ten at this level. The package itself is solid, and a number of experienced players have picked it up in the current meta, which is usually the first sign a deck is worth watching. Yellow still has great tools to compete in this format.
9. Green Shanks
The Mihawk ban gave Shanks much-needed breathing room. It has good matchups into most of the field and pressures opponents effectively once it gets going. The obstacle is Blue Xebec: as long as Xebec sits at the top, Shanks stays suppressed.
10. Yellow Enel
Yellow Enel has settled into a comfortable spot post-ban. It can take games off strong opponents and rewards players who know its lines well, but it lacks the consistency to climb higher. A solid option, just not one that defines the meta.
Conclusion
The Mihawk ban has reshaped the format, and Blue Xebec is the clear winner, returning to the top with a near-flawless matchup spread. ST30 Luffy & Ace and Sabo form a strong second tier, both capable of beating most of the field but held back by Xebec. Further down, the ban has opened space for decks like Green Shanks, though Xebec’s dominance keeps a lid on how far they can climb. As players adapt over the coming weeks, expect the high-rank field to build around answering Xebec. Whichever deck figures that out first could shake up the rankings.
