OP17 Meta Report

Introduction

This week the special queue moved over to the standard queue, which means we're now officially playing OP17. The data set is still limited, so treat everything below as an early read rather than a settled picture — we fully expect the meta to shift as more games get logged and as the set gets its official release. With that caveat in place, here's how the format is shaping up so far.

The Top 10

1. Red/Black Sabo

An archetype that got exactly what it needed from the new product, and it's converted that head start into the top spot. The decklist has been substantially reworked and the new tools have given it a real identity again. Strong win rate, high popularity, and a consistent presence at the top of the ladder this week — it's the most complete package in the format right now.

2. Rocks D. Xebec

A new powerhouse entering OP17. Xebec thrives on consistency and on maintaining a large hand size, and the payoff for doing so is significant. The matchup spread against the field is excellent, and we fully expect this deck to remain a fixture at the top for the duration of the format.

3. Purple Kaido

Kaido is showing real promise this early into the meta. It posted the most impressive matchup spread of any deck this week. Worth watching closely to see whether it can hold that pace as OP17 develops.

4. Green Mihawk

Mihawk has carried its momentum straight through from the starter deck releases. A leader ability that was already strong now has a much deeper toolbox behind it, and the result is a deck that shows up ready against essentially every field it walks into. Consistency was the one thing holding it back, and that problem has been solved. It also boasts a strong matchup into Xebec, which matters a great deal in a format shaping up around that deck.

5. Red Ace

A straightforward aggressive deck with a good win rate into several of the top decks. Left unchecked, it takes games over outright — the pressure arrives early enough that slower openings simply lose.

6. Yellow Big Mom

Big Mom lands in the top 10 on the back of strong triggers and, in classic Big Mom fashion, a genuine boss card in the new 10-cost. Combine that with the yellow staples — triggers and healing — and you have a deck that should hold its popularity throughout the format.

7. Purple Enel

Enel hasn't changed much, and it hasn't needed to. The deck's pressure never lets up: cheap bodies turn into real threats over consecutive turns, and once the win conditions stick to the board, digging them out is a project. Opponents routinely end up overspending just to stay level.

8. ST30 Luffy & Ace

An impressive win rate and a solid matchup spread on paper, but the sample size behind those numbers is small enough that we can't yet say whether the deck is genuinely as good as it looks. Time and volume will sort that out. For now, it's on the watchlist.

9. Black Luffy

A new deck with a genuinely unique angle on card cost. The leader effect pairs with characters whose increased cost unlocks abilities you'd normally only find on much more expensive cards, which makes for a deck that plays very differently from anything else in the format.

10. Blue/Yellow Boa

Boa's board-flooding engine and life management tools are still strong, but the field around her has gotten harder. There are simply more decks now equipped to race her or disrupt her before the defensive shell fully comes online, and that's enough to keep her at the bottom of the list rather than in the middle of it.

Conclusion

The story of OP17 so far is a format being rebuilt from both ends at once. Rocks D. Xebec, Purple Kaido, and Black Luffy are all new arrivals with real results behind them, while Red/Black Sabo took the top spot by turning the new product into a genuinely different deck rather than a slightly improved one. Xebec in particular looks like the deck the rest of the format will have to build around, and Mihawk's strong matchup into it is a large part of why it remains a top-four leader.

The usual caveat applies, and applies heavily. A week of standard queue data on a set that hasn't officially released yet tells us where early adopters are winning, not where the format ends up.
