Slight problem...

My hard drive crashed. I make regular backups, so this shouldn't be too serious, but - the first backup failed for some reason. 馃槵

I'm now attempting to restore from an earlier backup. Each attempt takes the computer a few hours, so it's possible my machine will be out of action for part of tomorrow (or longer).

All the really valuable stuff (source code, artwork) is backed up in the cloud anyway, so the worst case scenario is that I will spend time unfucking this situation instead of actually working on the game.

Best case scenario is that I wake up tomorrow and it's working again.  I'll keep you posted.

OH NO! I hate it when it happens. But I hope it will work.

well, at least the hardware is not fried (I hope) - good luck on the rebuild! ... those always suck to do (and so time consuming!)

no problem the machines decide when they will work for us make us think we are in control till they quit working and show who the Master really is lol

The engineer got the machine working today, but I've been unable to restore the backups. I'm going to try a manual rebuild tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, guys. :-(

Definitely look into Carbon Copy Cloner. Never had an issue never being able to recover backups with it. Plus you can actually boot directly into it. Glad you hear you're up and running. Sorry to hear able the backups being unrecoverable. Computers man, they got a mind of their own.

Hmm... not update today - doesn't bode well. O.O

You can make a Linux bootable USB, recover your files and then reinstall the OS.

For backing up my mac I use Carbon Copy Cloner, you can backup to an external disk with a full image and to other disks for file backup. My HDD recently died and I was able to boot directly into my external disk and I was up and running in 2 minutes. I was then able to clone my external disk back to my new internal disk in about 40 minutes (using an SSD). You can have multiple jobs, so you can take an image once a day, then have file backups running every 15-30 minutes. My file backups go to a folder being monitored by my cloud backup so it's automatically uploaded. Just a thought, plus if you're not already on an SSD, get one, the difference in speed is crazy! If you need a little advice on it shoot me a PM :)

Hard drive appears to be fucked. I'm taking it to an engineer; I doubt this will be a productive day :-(
