Combat Pilot - Alpha Update #2 Released for all Ace Tier Patreon Subscribers!
Dear Pilots,
On Friday (Sept. 25th), we released Alpha Update #2 (0.505) for our Patreon Ace Tier subscribers. We apologize for the delayed notice here on Patreon. Just update your Steam install to apply.
Changes and Additions
1. A6M2 and F4F-4 engine sounds relative to manifold pressure improved
2. A6M2 and F4F-4 engine sounds relative to RPMs improved
3. Head/Camera movement will only move in the direction intended and ignore any rotation data and when it hits the limit it will no longer slide upwards.
Example: You're looking down in the cockpit and you move your head backward. It will just move backward and not rise upwards and when it hits the limit it will stop moving.
4. Check the direction of the mouse wheel default binding to the FOV zoom
5. Create separate key-bindings for many "analog axis" style controls such as increase/decrease, open/close, up/down or left/right etc. If such keystrokes are missing for a corresponding axis, we will eventually add it. This will help with sorting Axes from Button actions in the Controller Assignments screen.
Examples:
Aileron trim right
Aileron trim left
Elevator trim up
Elevator trim down
Rudder trim right
Rudder trim left
Extend flaps
Retract flaps
Throttle increase
Throttle decrease
Fuel Mixture increase
Fuel Mixture decrease
Propeller Governor (RPM) increase
Propeller Governor (RPM) decrease
Cowl Flaps open
Cowl Flaps close
Head move forward
Head move back
Head move left
Head move right
Head move up
Head move down
FOV zoom in
FOV zoom out
6. Change the default binding of camera zoom to be approximately 5 degrees per input
7. Changed buffeting limits, so the camera shake now appears sooner with less angle of attack
8. Chocks re-worked to be more effective
9. Engine audio tweaking
Attenuation
Volume Drop off with Natural Curve (logarithmic) at Sea Level
High and Low Frequency Falloff due to Air Absorption using Natural Curves (logarithmic) at Sea Level
Adjustment of Attenuation Size and Shape, now more spatialized (Hemispheric) when panning around the Aircraft
Prop Layer
Engine Layers
Exhaust Layers
Sound Remixes and Tuning
A6M2 Exhaust Layer Remix
Prop Layer Remix
Harsher Semitone Pitch Shift down, -3 Semitones at lowest range to replicate RPMs below 600RPM range for both Aircraft
Bug Fix for Idle Loop on both Aircraft
Bug Fixes
10. Heavy breathing was not paused while active pause was enabled
11. Ships were moving while active pause was enabled
12. Ringing in the pilot's ear was not paused when ESC to the pause screen
13. Camera bobbing wasn’t paused while active pause was enabled
Flight-model Changes
The p-factors of both propellers ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P-factor) have been increased to better reflect the take-off characteristics of both aircraft, as reported by the testers. The result is a stronger yaw to the left due to the angle of attack of the airplane when sitting on all three wheels. The p-factor is also noticeable with more power.
You should account for the following during the takeoff procedure:
Increase power controllably (unless you are taking off in a carrier, in which case you need more power but you also have headwind to help with the rudder response)
Lock the tail wheel (F4F) and pull the stick back in the initial stages so that maximum traction is offered to the tail wheel
Try to lift the tail off the ground at around 50kt in order to have better control over the aircraft. By decreasing AoA, you reduce the P-factor
At speeds in excess of 30kt, your rudder can be used to control the direction too
Note: We will work on adding complexity and detail to our wheel physics next, in order to tweak rolling resistance, sliding resistance and ground loop behavior to reflect the feedback that we have received.
Enjoy!
