WOTM: Remembering What Jesus Said (2 of 2)
Tim's claim about the Holy Ghost helping the disciples remember all the things Jesus said to them is not just silly, it's empirically testable and demonstrable wrong. We have the gospels! So we can compare them with each other and she how (or whether) the Holy Ghost helped the Gospel writers remember events. Prepare yourself for a shit show!
Thanks again, gang. I couldn't do this without you! Enjoy!!! B

Good points all. BUT I want my creator of the Universe to be able to defeat a Fig Tree! So, Jesus fits the bill.
I have nothing to add to a slam-dunk.
Whoops! LOL!
What have we learned from Tim about those Gospels? That the Ghostie was either schizophrenic, borderline, suffering from Alzheimers, or one of the Brothers Grimm. I choose the latter.
Very Grimm! 😘
One other point of difference between the gospels, there are a lot of them, is who was responsible for crucifying Jesus? From Mark to John, there is a game of blame shifting from the Romans to the Jewish people as a whole. Even Pilate got to wash his hands of the whole affair.
My understanding is that this reflects two very different viewpoints of the early christian church. One part of the sect wanted a clean break from judiasm, and was "it's our way or the highway". You either let go of your judiasm and go 100% christian, or you don't get to be christian. Those gospel writers tend to be pretty anti-jewish, with things like the blame you note above. The other part of the sect wanted a "big umbrella", and essentially said, "if you are a good jew, that's good enough for jesus too". And hell, we'll invite the gentiles in too! As the gospels and early writings of the church evolved, later church leaders had to try to wrangle these two opposing viewpoints into a more cohesive narrative, obviously with limited success.
