Development update - Chapter 1 Part 4B
Hi everyone,
This week wasn't productive. I had a lot on my mind and a lot going on in real life with my family (if you are new here, I am married with three children), so I just couldn't get to rendering this week. Unfortunately, next week won't be any better, but there is nothing I can do about it. But I think things will probably settle a bit later in the week.
I managed to alter another room in the environment I am using now. To refresh your mind a little bit, its a huge vacation house that is part of mountain, it got great architecutre but not so great when it come so textures and details and that's where I comes in, I take the environment and change it to fit my standards as much as I can, sometimes there are limitation like what the hardware limitation or the shape of the whole thing is really weird and I need to put stone by stone in order to create something I like and looks good in my eyes. It's very heavy on hardware, and to control it, I need to adjust every room separately and save it to use when I create a sub-scene. I finished it and created a few renders. To continue the scene, I also need to choose a new swimsuit for one of the characters. Choosing the right one takes time. I already have the dialogue ready for this one and just want to start rendering.
I uploaded the env for you to understand a bit of the process of working with environments. I also added them in full resolution so you can download them if you want. The renders are raw and not post-edited.
Look carefully at the wall window, and you will see a gentle waterfall that is only visible in the dark if you put light through it.
The pattern you see in the after image is caused by the moonlight I created; it breaks on the waterfall outside the glass wall.
One thing that surprised me today was that someone sent an image of this:
I know he is going to stream it today, but I won't be able to join it. I hope he will enjoy it; I really have no idea what his taste in AVN is like. I hope he is ready and open to something different.

It looks much better. Some of the plants in the background are less visible now because it's darker, but 95% of it looks better 😉👍. Now that I can see you're trying to improve the lighting and make it as realistic as possible, I have a technical question 😅: Is the game like looking at images in a photo album, where everything is already sculpted? I mean, nothing is rendered in real time, is it? Nothing in 3D? I ask because I once had a problem where I could use ray tracing (AI lighting, which is very demanding on the GPU) to fix dark or poorly lit areas in a game. Until around 2023/2024, I know that developers had to simulate all the lighting from every angle, but lately games have started to be released with mandatory ray tracing or path tracing, so the AI lights everything. I don't know much more than that, only that the AI can illuminate quite well 😅👍.
Yeah. Any game with static images isn't a real 3D game. Because the engine isn't using the characters' and environment's geometry in real time. Iray uses ray-traced/path-traced lighting to calculate shadows, reflections, indirect light, etc., and can use the GPU and AI denoising to speed up the process. But AI doesn't actually create the lighting.
