god i just love the scene in the end where we hear everyone thinking. the character work in these episodes was 10/10
Very interesting that Poufs aura, the pure essence of his soul in the form of Nen, was so vicious and terrifying to behold, without Knov even touching it.
It’s like you’re saying he’s pure evil which he’s not. His aura is so terrifying because he knows people will try to hurt the closest person to him and he will never let them or forgive them for it, us humans will do the same thing for our loved ones if not more
I think when it comes to the royal guard, it's worth remembering their conversation with Meruem (whose name you pronounced exactly right btw) about his name. None of them gave an answer that satisfied him, yes, but I think their specific responses are very telling about their characters. Pouf assures him his the King, and there's no need for a name beyond that. Youpi, without any pride or ego, says such a question is beyond him and he doesn't have an answer. Pitou tells him he should pick his own name based on what feels right. I think these are all very indicative of their different personalities and ways of thinking about the king.
I once heard it explained as 3 different parenting styles. Pouf is controlling, Pitou is supportive and Youpi is disinterested beyond keeping him alive. I'm sure whoever said it first used better words but I can't think of them right now.

Interesting tidbit about Pouf's wing scales. If you go back to the Hunter Exam arc, in the tricksters swamp section of phase 1 there's an animal there called "The Hypnosis Butterfly", which put all the applicants that saw it to sleep. It's incredibly likely that Pouf has the DNA of this particular butterfly, and that his wing scale ability isn't even nen it's just a natural power he posseses.
That's a good catch. I wonder if it was intentional by Togashi or if he just likes hypnotic butterflies. It seems like a trope in Japan.
