Hello! Im David. We just witnessed Violet suffering from the loss of the person she loves the most due to the war, and now they show us a similar event, only this time she is not the protagonist of it.
Finally caught up with this show! This is my first time through. Tried to watch it a few years back and had some trouble getting into it. This time around I've enjoyed it more, though I still have some of my initial problems with it. Anyway, last episode was the best one, but this one comes very close imo. I really have enjoyed all the different perspectives of people we have seen through this letter writing. And being at this point where Violet is able to more easily cry in front of others really exemplifies how far she has come. Oh, and idk if Ranking of Kings has already been decided on or not, but I'm gonna keep recommending Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Only 12 episodes, and all the main characters are girls. Like Violet Evergarden it also is something that contains a lot of suffering but is ultimately hopeful, though PMMM isn't heartwarming in the same way VE is.
You need to watch the movies after you finish the TV anime.
I know Ranking of Kings is on your radar to replace this, but have to bring up Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End as another anime for you to consider. It’s currently running, on episode 14 as of this week, and brings similar feelings as VE for me (with more funny and uplifting moments so far)
The two of them always prefer to watch a show in its entirety and not wait for new seasons. Frieren will probably end up with 4 to 5 seasons. I would therefore wait with this anime and stick with Ranking of Kings, which is finished.

Another happy episode with Violet Evergarden. Now just two more to go. Maybe your wish for plot will come true. Maybe :D
Violet episode 6 gave us a cute episode with Thorfinn and then the writers were like “okay, you’ve had too much fun” and then gave us episodes’ 7-11
And the fact that Violet Evergarden feels like such a spiritual successor to Vinland especially because they watched them pretty close to each other makes your statement soo true 😭😭😭
