the second movie is controversial, but please watch the first one at the very least! it's beautiful and isn't part of the main story

I wasn’t necessarily pushing them for watching the two movies, or at least the second movie, but after their reaction and discussion, I kinda almost think they should watch both movies, and take in the warts and all of the second one

Regarding Violet's childhood, as far as I understand from the anime, Violet attacked Dietfried Bougainvillea's crew in some random encounter and she killed quite a few of his soldiers before she was captured. He then sent her to Gilbert so that he could have some extra protection. We don't really know who trained her before that or how she lived but it's clear that she was quite lethal by then.

Anime-Timeline so far: Violet was adopted by Gilbert at the tender age of 10. Gilbert is 25 years old at the time, his brother a few years older. On the day she receives the brooch, she is 14 years old. A few weeks later, the Battle of Intense takes place. She also spent 120 days (4 months) in hospital. She then starts working at CH Postal Company and attends the Auto Memory Doll School for a few weeks. Then the events up to episode 6 (+ OVA) happen in a few months. Then about 3 months later, episodes 7 and 8. I have to mention that the anime uses Violet's character design, which was created before she was made younger. Visually, she is therefore about 2 to 3 years older.

Great reaction as always! Would also love to see Frieren in the poll at some point. Might be even a great replacement for Violet Evergarden once you guys watch it all.

I just love how much Gilbert cares for Violet, how he wanted to keep her away from the battlefield but she followed him against his will. He still tried to make the best of the situation, and taught her to read and write, trying to give her a future after the war. What a great episode, but the next ones manage to be even better. I'm really looking forward to your reaction.

The conversation between Gilbert and Hodgins reminded me of that scene from Band of brothers where Winters and Nixon discuss their plans after the war. Hodgins even offers him a job at his company :'(

I haven’t watched all their reactions yet, but I hope they still like the show with the whole age thing. The show is still so beautiful & has so many good plot points that make it a feel good emotional journey worth taking
