“Is there some reason why we pointed to this girl?” When you are done with the series, google “Deedee the wire”. Thanks for doing the wire. You amaze.

Both for the previous episodes discussion and indeed this one too: it's going to be incredibly interesting to see the girls reaction to particular events coming up based on the reactions/theories discussed.

This discussion delivered because I could tell one of the reasons they thought the Avon/Stringer storyline could last until season 5 was because people told them how good season 4 was, so to see them finally get to the point where they're like 'wait, if the story ends soon....what happens in season 4?!' was so satisfying

Your guys' reasons for hating Tommy are silly. A politician has to sit down and converse with people he disagrees with, making him a hypocrite? Dude, get a grip on reality

They didn't really even give him a chance as soon as they recognized his face. If he's trying to make a positive change then his motives for it don't really matter too much. Are people really supposed to wait for a purely selfless idealist who can somehow keep gaining political power without doing anything dirty.

You probably figured it out from editing, but just to make it more clear: We did see earlier a throwaway line from Avon saying to 'get Devonne on it'. The reason that they could tell it was a setup was because they had someone sit in the takeout restaurant, and they saw that one guy walk in and order sandwiches and drinks for 4 people even though he was alone, which is why Marlo's guy in the car says 'We'll see if the car that he got into stays for longer or leaves soon, if it doesn't leave we know we're onto something.' Then they see Devonne look twice at the parked car, and finally see the window roll down and one of the people inside throws their wrapper that their sandwich was in out the back window.

At the very start of the episode, a young woman was buying coke and Lola said "Is there some reason why we pointed to this girl?" As seen here: https://ibb.co/fHvSZ9n Yes! Her name is Dee Dee, and you will see her again- it helps if you remember her from that short scene. I thoroughly enjoyed the Bodie discussion (who wasn't even in the episode), and how they talked themselves into a state of panic over Bodie's future well being. Jimmy destroying Breanna was one of the most brutal scenes in the show, right up there with Wallace getting shot and "Where's Wallace?!" So much happened in this episode that Cutty/Dennis didn't even get discussed!

"I think the thing with Stringer is that he thinks he is the smartest person in the room." Yup, absolutely. Now which Police Officer does that fit too..

That scene with McNulty and Brianna is so fucking good. One of my favorite episodes

The best ending to an episode ever. The raw emotion from BOTH men is felt throughout the ENTIRE scene!!! Avons statement “Not hard enough for this right here and maybe, maybe not smart enough for them out there!!” Perfectly encapsulates Stringer in every sense. The fact that Avon can see Stringer so clearly and yet didn’t see Stringer killing D is so good because you can truly see the trust he had in Stringer that something like that NEVER crossed his mind. Also Avon’s instant reaction to be to hurt Stringer even though he was just shot says a lot about Avon as well. Stringer only told Avon here because he was upset that Avon called him soft essentially and not as smart as he thinks he is and he wanted to prove to Avon that not only was he “hard” enough to kill someone, but that he was also smart enough to make the decision and pull it off without Avon knowing. His ego wouldn’t allow Avon to look down on him so he told on himself, which to me is so pathetic and yet so Stringer to do it that way. Avon and Stringer to me undoubtedly had the BEST, most intriguing and most complex relationship in all of The Wire!! And this scene cemented it for me, the dead silence, both knowing there’s nothing left to say and a line has been crossed, we can’t go back to what we used to be, beautifully scripted.

Everything about the show is expertly crafted, but these scenes with Avon and Stringer really do stand out. I appreciate how they had Avon get shot before, and wove that in to Avon and Stringer getting into a fight. Avon was able to "lose" while deescalating the fight while still protecting Avon's standing as "hard" since he was injured from getting shot.

Yeah, Avon mentions Devonne briefly when talking to Slim Charles, it's easy to miss. It basically was a setup to get Marlo, but he and his crew clocked it by checking out the meeting place beforehand. Turns out Marlo was right to be suspicious...

It’s noticeable that you read ahead on the subtitles before the line is actually delivered because we can see u react to what’s about to be said before they even say it (eg when Stringer tells Avon that it’s true D’Angelos death wasn’t a suicide) 😂

Crazy that this show didn’t win any major awards but is still widely considered as one of if not the best shows ever. I know back then that if a show had a predominantly black cast it was viewed as a “black” show and that is the only reason I can imagine of why it was overlooked. (I’m sure other people will argue other reasons) But word of mouth has brought in new audiences from all over the world to the point that people are surprised if you haven’t watched The Wire.

The Wire's lack of awards show success (and nominations) is all you need to demonstrate that the award shows are silly.

Yes..The whole thing with the girl (Devonne) hooking up with Marlo was setup by Avon, so that they could try to kill him…Avon chatted to Slim Charles about it earlier in the episode: “Can’t go through the front on this boy… so I’m thinking we’re gonna have to creep around the back. Get Devonne on it”… but Marlo figured it out.

Yep. They missed it because I think they focused on the Omar part of the convo and missed the Marlo part.

When we said it was the best show, we weren't lying.

Still my #1 show! I hope something is made that dethrones it!

One of my favourite episodes of the show. The ending gives me chills every time I watch it.
