Also a line I really love from this episode is "the world exists for people stronger than you". Really sums a lot up for me. That Ketil scene kind of connects with the Fox scene at the beginning too. Both men who wielded power over others being outmatched in their domains, Fox by the Jomsvikings' strength and Ketil by Canute's authority. In this situation, we see they're basically just like the retainers, lashing out at those below them while/because they're pretty much powerless in the grand scheme of things (we saw this most explicitly and directly with Ketil beating Arnheid as a direct result of being made to feel powerless). But if the world exists for people stronger than you then really everyone suffers, because someone stronger will always come along.

If I were to say every part of this episode made me cry I'd be describing most of the episode, but one part that really hit me that doesn't get mentioned enough is when Thorfinn started doing chest compressions and said his dad taught him this. Instantly brought the image to mind of Thorfinn walking into his house and seeing his dad trying to save the slave in the very first episode. And yeah man you can't expect me to think about adorable little 6 year old Thorfinn and the impact Thors had on him years down the line, well after his death, without sobbing.

Bear with the show for 4 weeks girls. As much as i love your reactions, i enjoy your thoughts, your analysis, your takes, your opinions on show more. Waiting for 4 weeks for your vinland releases, i am gonna pull my hairs out of my scalp lol. Withdrawal won't be bearable.

Arnheid's death is such a tragic one.. but it's definitely not one that went to waste. If our boys didn't have enough motivation already to make Vinland a reality, after witnessing her death and the things she said during her last moments, they have all the fuel in world to make it happen. I've been telling people this a lot lately, but I haven't seen a friendship this strong since Gon and Killua from Hunter x Hunter. (Although maybe I just haven't watched enough media, lol.) I love it. This might sound weird but there's not enough media depicting men showing compassion for each other like these two do. Thorfinn literally sat on the ground next to him and cried while holding him. That is true brotherly friendship. And yeah, the determination in Thorfinn's eyes is next level. "Canute only brought a 100 men. Pfft, I can make it back. Don't worry."

49:37 Hahaha. Welcome to the anime release culture. If you're already so tortured by the weekly release, it's best not to start with a non-finished manga. The monthly release with content for about half an episode would probably kill you (it already kills me, 28 days until Vinland Saga Chapter 203 😖). But personally I can live with it if you take a 4 week break. BUT: Then I want to get the 4 episodes published one after the other. Don't make us Patreons wait 4 more weeks after the season finale for the Reaction to it. 🥺

I would be down if they started something new to watch next week and release vs all at once after episode 24

Farewell, dear Arnheid, as we bid you adieu. In any other realm of storytelling, we might have yearned for a character like Einar to exact retribution upon Ketil and seal his fate. However, within the world of Vinland, having witnessed the trials that Thorfinn has endured, I could not bear to witness Einar suffer a similar plight. This episode had such good call backs. From showing us child Thorfinn along with Leif, to Thorfinn remembering words of Canute about God in episode s1 20 . Brilliant. just brilliant. Although my top call back is this: https://imgur.com/gallery/s88JQTy

I probably don't need to mention it, but Arnheid may have died in this episode, but her tragedy will reverberate in subsequent storylines and influence our characters in their decisions. She will not disappear. Like Thors and Askeladd, her death was not in vain and is another reason for the creation of Vinland. Like your imgur image shows, it's just another step for our characters.

I really have to say that I'm impressed with how the team animates the action. As far as I've seen so far in season 2, not once has the "camera" been rotated around a character (very difficult to animate, often CGI). Instead, the image is always static and we have vertical/horizontal movement of the image as the characters move (gets smaller as he moves away, bigger as he gets closer, ...). And in this episode, even rotoscoping (overdrawing real or 3D animated scenes) was used for Badger, which is why you really feel the weight of each axe swing. It's kind of unusual because WIT studio animators (now at Mappa) and Mappa itself very often use rotation and CGI to show action. Hopefully fans won't badmouth the animation because of this. It really is beautiful to look at.

So far I've seen nothing but praise for the animation. The rotoscoping they did for Badger's fight looked beautiful
