My favorite shot from the episode is of Hange falling down from the sky as the plane lifts off. Such beautiful imagery/symbolism in just a second or two of screen time.
I'm really happy the discussion is long! I had always wondered what the balance was of how much you kept in. I always assumed mostly all of it, because you guys will leave in when you go on tangents about food or getting your nails done or travelling and repeating yourselves xD Plus it has a light editing feel. BUT with many eps from Mr Robot I realized yall actually cut a lot of valid discussion points, so I really hope you know that a lot of people including me really love the discussion, I personally love it more than the reaction! Excited for this to come out

Now that I have watched the reaction to the end, again great praise to Mappa. Animation-wise perfect. And anyone who knows what happens next can completely understand why they will need more animation time for the next 60-100 minutes. I like to think back to when manga chapters 130-139 were released and it was learned that Mappa was going to animate it (Memes at the time: https://imgur.com/a/KzQouC8). I will be very surprised to see how they will make the finale. And hopefully you've checked out the lyrics to the new Ending Song and with any luck the Opening "My War". I just love the foreshadowing in Attack on Titan, partly very suptil hidden in the dialogues and songs. Also the song "Bauklötze" at Hange's death was just perfect in that respect. "Fiery Sunset", "With the embers of hatred we swing our swords", "Is this our fate or our will?", "We will fight until this hot wind takes our wings". The only thing I find a pity is that the production committee could not wait until the other half is finished. So we had 1 hour of fun, but it is still something different than hoping for two or six weeks for more scenes and the fan community spinning theories between each episode. Especially back then, when the final manga chapters were released monthly, and every time the whole fan community jumped on it and threw endless theories into the room, that was just a great time, even when chapters 137 to 139 failed to convince large parts of the fan community. But because the ending was so bad for so many people, I had a great time expperiencing the dumpster fire and the nuclear fallout that is caused. Otherwise, I'm curious about your discussion for now. An hour of Attack on Titan in a row is pretty tough, especially when it comes to the final chapters. Hopefully you were able to recover. If you watched Vinland Saga on the same day, my condolences. Then you had a bit of tragedy-drama overload today.
I think today they might have limited themselves to aot😂 i felt drained for 2 days after this episode aired. Can't imagine these two.
ngl i read the manga a long time ago and these scenes did not hit as hard in the manga. i mean the art was fantastic and it was still terrifying (the rumbling) but the music and voice acting made it all the much better. even Hanges death was absolutely crazy
And now we wait for Vinland S2 ep9. This week is gonna be interesting one.
Like another said, "See you later Eren" was in the very first chapter. Even though it was clearly there for a reason, the director of the anime (under Wit, so S1-3) chose to change it because they didn't know if they would adapt the whole story or not. Isayama in general had less creative control over the story in the first season than in future ones
Does anyone know what time zone they’re in? So I can get an estimate on when to be edited version comes out

Great adaptation. Especially Hange's death was strongly animated. In the manga, her life seemed so thrown away as her scene felt like only one page. But what bothered me a lot was the Freedom scene. In the colored manga, you had seen the steam from the colossal Titans forming clouds and Eren, after running behind the Titans, not seeing the destruction and suffering (Manga: https://imgur.com/a/L3bkBjy). Here, it seemed more like the sea of corpses was his dream of freedom.
What tangible thing in the manga actually made it feel "thrown away" to you? It sort of bothers me when people say "the anime improved on this" but it's clearly just people connecting more with the medium and struggling to do the same with manga. If there was an actual creative change I'd love to hear it Funny, I got the opposite feeling. The episode literally shows the corpses and cross-fades to the clouds/steam, which very clearly communicates that it's all Eren can see
Fun fact: the guy that helped hange up on the scene after she died was Moblit :( her best friend.

Reiner is by far my favorite character of the show. I never knew I needed a Reiner and Annie hugging scene in my life until this episode, lol. Reiner will always be the big brother of the group.
i've been waiting ages for that panel to be animated. specially since they skiped one one of my favourite panels and didn't animated it in 4x03. that panel was my lockscreen for months. can't find it right now but it was armor reiner carrying tiny annie and then they also ignored completely female titan carrying baby reiner and bert. they did the warriors dirty 💀 honestly reiner and annie's friendship is one of my favourite things from aot.
I'm glad we're waiting like 6 months for the next ep, I won't be able to survive it I swear

Don't rush the edit! I know one person saying this probably won't change anything, but even though I tend to be really impatient at waiting for these, this isn't just an episode; it's the first half of the ending of this show which is over 80 episodes. I'm personally fine with waiting an extra day if the alternative is you feeling like you have to rush

Eren is doing it for his friends and people but he is also doing it because the world wasn’t what he thought it would be it was full of hate, racism and people trying to kill them so there is a bit of selfishness there. But its self defense selfishness because if the world didn’t want to kill them Eren wouldn’t have happened done this, but also genocide is wrong !! damn man I’m so conflicted.
He’s also doing it purely for the fact that there are ANY people out there. He wanted the big empty world from Armins book, and now he has the power to make it that, plus some. He can literally kill the world. All the natural land marks and beautys, gone. All the animals, gone. All the fish and sea life, boiled and gone. But, there might still be some birds left that Lola loves so much lol

the “ill see you later eren” scene is actually the very first scene in chapter 1 of the manga (released in 2009!!!) but for some reason WIT studios removed that line when animating episode 1. mappa adding it back here is them correcting WIT’s omission ( likely at isayama’s request)
Wait, is it actually the first scene in the manga? My memory could be wrong, but I thought we saw the Colossal Titan, and then members of the Survey Corps fighting titans, before the Eren and Mikasa scene.
