oh my god...remember that scene when Eren was on a trolley with all his friends and he is talking about how his friends are more important to him than anyone in the world? This is literally the "trolley problem". He is on a trolley contemplating the trolley problem. he chose the few versus the many. holy shit this is genius

Could you guys react to the sudden visitor OVA for attack on titan? You guys would love it

You should do reactions for OVA 2 and 3. They dont really add to the story but give a bit more story to jean/marco. Seems like you girls like the pointless cadet stuff anyway so I think you would really enjoy these

Im the only one who see floch just like eren but with no one close to him only their country? i cant hate floch and love eren honestly, even if eren is using floch, floch is still doing this for his country and the whole world were about to attack them even before eren s attack in marley, im not saying genocide is good, but even if its just a island compared to the world, of course there will be someone ready sacrifice everithing for that island. its just fuking sad how floch became this, just like eren. And its just dumb to me to see people hate floch and talk about his haircut lmao

I am losing sympathy for the Alliance with every episode. I am especially mad at Armin and Hange (and Pixis and everybody else from the old military command, but they are dead). They were unable to solve things with diplomacy before, they made almost no progress during the timeskip and now they are yet again trying to decide for everybody else what is right and what is wrong. They are not so different from Floch in that matter, but unlike him they lack any long-term plan. Some of Floch's actions, unnecessary cruelty and his power trips make him unlikeable and I certainly don't root for him, but I don't get how most of what he says in this episode isn't the truth. I am also very, very curious of what the hell is Alliance going to do to stop Eren. If they suggest "talking" to him I will laugh out loud and just watch the show without supporting ANYBODY anymore. If they suggest murdering him, I can't wait to hear how exactly, as he's surrounded with colossal titans (remember how damn hard it was to kill Bert?), not to mention that he can just kill or brainwash most of them with a single thought. I really hope that Armin will finally use this genius brain of his to think of some crazy plan, now that they have many more assets. But the person I blame the most for what is happening right now is Eren. He forced the scouts hand on Liberio and he's responsible for every reprehensible action Floch is (and much, much more). No amount of love for your friends can justify what this mad fool is doing. I really hope we hear some good justification for his actions in the next episode or in the movie. Honestly, I am starting to think that Zeke's plan was the best one.

Man, the youtube comment section on this episode is WILD. You've got some people saying Floch is a flawless angel hero fighting despicable traitors, at least one or two people saying LM are empty- headed; a couple of the usual personal insults and the "anyone who disagrees with me just fundamentally misunderstands the show".

Fascists not understanding that sane people don't argree with fascism and genocide will never not be funny. Their arguments about Mikasa are so hypocritical, it's honestly hilarious. Yes, when Floch kills unarmed people who didn't agree with his views, it is obviously a bad thing. And yes, when Mikasa kills enemy soldiers that are trying to kill her and her friends, it's still a fucked up situation but acceptable. I think a lot of the Mikasa hate comes down to just the fact that she is a woman. I mean, it is not really surprising that fascists are also mysoginistic. If Mikasa was a man no one would care about her killing people. The proof is literally in this episode: Connie kills multiple yeagerists and no one cares about it. Also with Levi we have a character in the show who is very similar to Mikasa and everyone loves him. No one was crying out loud when he killed Kenny's squad. And before anyone asks: Yeah, if you think Floch is a likeable person and justified in what he does, then you are a fascist and I hope we never meet in real life.

S
Seth · March 22, 2022

Why is this a debate? They either kill them or let over a billion people be turned to mush there’s no other option

T
Tim Kane · March 22, 2022

The choices are either you fight to genocide the world (many of whom who hate you) or you fight to genocide your own people. Only a super utilitarian would say the former is the obvious choice just cause there are more of them

J
Jacob · March 22, 2022

I have mixed feelings about the scene with Mikasa killing all of those Yeagerists. Everything she did made sense pragmatically; even using one guy as a shield or exploding another soldier's thunder spears just to make absolutely sure he can't use them before dying. Given the situation the Alliance is in, it's no wonder she was taking no chances. And yet there's no denying that it was jarringly brutal. To be fair lot of that is because she has to use swords, which is more immediately disturbing to watch than if she just quickly shot people. On one hand, I wonder if the animators wouldn't have been wiser to not focus as much attention on how she kills each person and have it happen more quickly. But on the other hand, there's a certain poetry in following up some episodes of the Yeagerists at their most bloodthirsty with one that serves as a reminder that ultimately many of them are acting primarily out of justified fear of their loved ones being slaughtered by the Global Alliance. It was a clever choice to visually frame Mikasa and Connie, even briefly, as implacable enemies viciously tearing through the Yeagerists while they desperately try to survive.

I
IKirsanov · March 22, 2022

I see your point, but my take on this - its main theme of current arc. Its a tragedy, they have to kill all those yeagerists so they can save billions of people and they have to do it now, they cant drag it out any longer. And maybe Mikasa's brutality serve a purpose to scary the rest of yeagerist, preventing them to even try fight her.

its crazy that people try to hold the moral highground on mikasa as if shes the first person to do something morally grey. floch and the yeagerists were holding public executions of non-eldians and im supposed to be upset she was merciless against them? its not like mikasa was enjoying it either, its just the only way to save the boat and stop genocide

J
Jag_227 · March 21, 2022

I agree Mikasa is no different from what anyone else is doing. However, the scene of her actually killing the soldiers was an anime extension of the manga. I really like that choice the directors made to extend the scene. But, the specific scene of Mikasa setting off the thunder spear on the two dying soldiers and then getting rained on with their blood felt really sadistic. That's not a reflection of Mikasa's character because I think that scene is very out of touch with who Mikasa is. That level of cruelty is not something she would do and felt very out of place with the vibe of the episode. I thought that scene was a poor inclusion to the anime. Maybe that's why some people came away from the episode with those strong opinions of Mikasa.

J
Jacob · March 21, 2022

As infuriating as Floch is, I'm glad Isayama included the character. Realistically, there had to be someone who just broke from all the trauma Marley put Paradise through, and couldn't see anyone outside the island as anything but enemies.

@Jag_227 You don't want to know how some fans watch Attack on Titan. Abysses are opening up on Twitter.

Today's episode was something very special. If we go back a bit: The Eldians of Paradise have been trying to establish contact with the outside world, whose attempts at communication have been rejected. Marley declared war on Eldia with the rest of the world, due to a threat that they only made a reality because they declared war. It could have been stopped, but the outside world refused. They held too tightly to events of over 100 years ago and propaganda. "We haven't even had a chance to talk this through!" *The Yeagerist Perspective* What reactions could be expected here from Eldians to Paradise? There were those, with Armin and Hange, who believed that communication was still possible, even if it meant using rumbling to get them to the conversation table. But there were also others who could thus only perceive the outside world as an enemy. For these there was only an "us against them". This group is most strongly represented by the Yeagerists and Floch. With Floch we have a character of immense development and depth anyway, which is often only superficially regarded by the fan community. A soldier who had to see how comrades sacrificed their dreams and lives for the greater good, who followed orders with pure fear and rode to their deaths. As the sole survivor, he naturally fights to ensure that none of his people ever have to sacrifice their dreams for war again. With Jean, we also got an emotional scene where Floch told him that he can finally pursue his dreams. Along with Armin and Hange, Floch also has the burden of the 13th Commandant of the Survey Corps: Erwin Smith, whose life he was unable to save. Again and again we see Floch as a leader, speaking to his comrades and motivating them, in very similar figurative design as Erwin did. And with Floch's interests at stake for his comrades, Eren's plan, the annihilation of the outside world, is the logical consequence of the "us against them" that the Eldians have been pushed into. But this also means that if Eren is stopped, it will be the end of Paradise and all the people on this island. Communication has failed, the Titan curse will separate them from the other humans forever (Eren at the firing range in 4x09). And as technology continues to advance, they have no means of defense. *The Scouts Perspective* This in no way justifies genocide to the outside world, but the situation of the Eldians on Paradise is distorted a bit too much by an over-morality in my opinion. No nation should have to surrender to the racism and consequent desire for genocide of another nation because they are outnumbered. Rumbling to hold back the other nations, scare them, destroy their military bases and get them off the island as was initially planned (the original plan or as of Part 2 by Armin suspected Eren's plan) would be the better plan from a neutral standpoint. However, as we know, Eren is still pursuing his own interests, including saving Historia from being a hatching machine and Titanshifter. In the end, the remaining scouts have allied with Marley to stop Eren. If the Scouts' cooperation with Marley had been conditional on ending the war against Paradise and establishing diplomatic relations, this group's actions would have proper legitimacy. However, this does not exist. Ultimately, they want to stop the genocide of the rest of the world because it is morally reprehensible, but they do not yet have a plan to stop the subsequent genocide of the Eldians. A stop of the war against Paradise and the establishment of diplomatic relations is also theoretically possible after the rumbling stopped by Eldians, but is not secured and thus makes the current actions of the Scouts clearly enemies of Paradise. *Black and White Thinking* All this becomes clear in tonight's episode: We see the Yeagerists as human as never before. We see restraint, motivational speeches, and desperation in them. They fight for the people on Paradise, for their survival, and have to kill former comrades and friends to do so. However, these do not hold back one bit, quite the opposite. They seem like monsters. Jean doesn't hesitate for a second as former comrades struggle to pull the trigger with a look of despair on their faces. Mikasa runs over the Yeagerists like a lawnmower, still using a thunder spear to cause a shower of blood from Yeagerists she has already killed. It seemed like a bloodlust, a frenzy that runs through the scouts. Opposite worlds meet in this episode: Yeagerists, who are willing to sacrifice the outside world for the survival of their fellow humans, and show themselves as human as never before, and Scouts, who kill friends and comrades because of their morals and their rejection of genocide, but completely give up their humanity in the process. From the beginning, Attack on Titan was about breaking down black and white thinking. Initially, it was Titans versus humans. Then we got Marley's warriors, former comrades and friends who betrayed "humanity". Still a little later, the government was the enemy, and shortly after that, humanity in the rest of the world. With each step, however, not only did the enemy change, but so did the perspective. In season 1, of course, the Titans were the bad guys, but there were also many bad and evil people who caused suffering to others. The warriors may have fought for the enemy, but don't you still feel sorry for them after understanding why they did so? Can you not understand the actions of the royal family and King Fritz behind the walls now that you has understood why he did this? Hasn't the view of the pure titans also changed a lot with the knowledge from the basement? Are all people in the outside world really evil, like the Eldians in Liberio or the Volunteers from various states conquered by Marley? And now in Yeagerists vs Alliance, this all seems to have been forgotten. Because all the main characters are now acting on the same side, viewers start thinking in terms of black and white again. They don't even try to understand the actions of the other side anymore, and they don't question the actions of the narrated side. It's as if the audience still has to be shown the other side in order to understand it. And now we are at a real absurd point: The viewers, who slip back into this black and white thinking, continue to have a high opinion of Eren and show understanding for him. BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN AND WILL BE TOLD HIS SIDE. "We haven't even had a chance to talk this through!" This quote reflects not only the story, but also the entire fan community and beyond. People are bash each other's heads in because they don't even want to make the effort to understand the other side. The fact that such hardened sides form in the fan community at all actually shows the lack of understanding some viewers have for this series. "I support the Alliance", "I support the Yeagerists", "The ending is good", "The ending is bad", "Eren x Mikasa", "Eren x Historia", ... It should actually be: "This is what I find good or bad about the alliance or the Yeagerists", "This is what I find good at the end and this is what I find bad at the end", "This speaks for and against a relationship between Eren and Mikasa or Historia". Talk to each other properly! *Magath - Open for Dialog* To come back to the episode here: At the end we get Magath and Keith, two actually hostile instructors and high-ranking military officers, who exchange a few words with each other before they die. Elementary here, however, is Magath. Magath knows the crimes of Marley, he has partially commanded and executed them himself. He accepts the evil, he even calls the Marleyans themselves devils, just like the Eldians. Indeed, caught up in indoctrination, he continues to hold to the wickedness of the Eldians. The history under Eldia is fresher than that of the younger generation because of his age. He ultimately represents Marley and the rest of the world. And so he has been in favor of the eradication of Paradise. It may be about oil, resources, and military power (control of the Founding Titan), but legitimacy for the attack comes from the history: threat of Eldians. A dialogue with Paradise would have allowed trade with these resources, but no one wanted this, especially the Marleyan government, which wants to achieve control through power. Only now, with facts being created by Eren, Magath begins to open up to something new because of the cooperation with the scouts. It is only through the dialogue and showing for understanding that he realizes how he would have wanted a different life for the warriors. And with this example I would now like to end this super long text.

Mikasa could've killed some of the Jeagerists and moved on, but no ! She had to behead one of them, take his body, stap it accross to another wounded "old comrade" , do you think this is where she stops? nooo. She also had their dead bodies exploding by their own thunder spears just to miss with their bodies and watch the shower of blood and get washed under it. But yeah they're here to save the world I guess (:

Floch: *Kills Marleyan and beats up Shadis* People: OMG what a fascist! Mikasa: *Ruthlessly cuts down her own countrymen who are trying to protect Paradis* People: OMG slay Kween! I don't mind people liking or disliking these scenes, I just hate hypocrisy of it all.

e
enchantertim · March 21, 2022

You're omitting the fact that Jaegerists were just ordered by Floch to kill our guys. Also Mikasa and our guys have blades as weapons while the Jaegerists have guns and rifles. Our guys need to get into close combat which looks more savage, all Jaegerists need to do is fire bullets and shoot missiles from afar.

Great episode and, as always, a great reaction from you! Too bad we'll be waiting 2 weeks for the last episode of this part of the season, but oh well... Now for something completely (not really) different: I don't know if you've seen it already, but there's a fantastic mashup on Youtube of 'The Enemy' (the opening song for Arcane) and the last 2 openings for Attack on Titan, and both the song and the visuals are amazing and I think you'd love it. If you want to watch it search for 'enemy x my war mashup' (the visuals contain scenes from both shows, but no spoilers/teasers for manga stuff from AoT or anything related to Arcane season 2, so no spoilers for someone who've watched Arcane and is up to date with AoT).
