Full Metal Sub or Dub

Fmab dub is decent good fr but compared sub bruhhh there havent been any dub for me that have come close to sub

Brotherhood is way better in my humble opinion and closer to the story.

I think dub is the way to go, but I think there should be a separate poll. Brotherhood only, vs Original then Brotherhood. I fell like skipping straight to brotherhood is like deciding to watch Avatar but purposefully skipping out on a lot of character development episodes. Intentionally skipping Zuku Alone, The Takes of Ba Sing Se, the recap play episode, etc. There is a lot more that is expanded on, with a different focus by watching the original first. The only problem right now is that only just recently, it's become hard to find where to stream the original series because it's been taken off of Netflix, but it isn't on Paramount+ (which contains Nikelodeon.)

Plus if they watch it in Dub, they could possibly react to the bloopers of the show. Its incredibly funny for anyone who hasnt seen it, its called "FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Bloopers" on yt. I bet they would love to watch it after they finish the show.

I watched this in VLC where I can switch between sub and dub, so often times for interesting scenes I'll flip the language and rewatch it. I guess the dub was OK, but not that special tbh. Other dubs like Kaguya Sama/Love is War I'll watch in both English and Japanese, the dub is hilarious but the original Japanese is also hilarious. Point is, you guy should watch Kaguya Sama/Love is War.

I'm Japanese. I watched this anime many times in sub and dub. And I am always surprised that the voices of the main characters are similar. The quality of both sub and dub is so high. (^-^)

I have a funny idea - have LM watch what they prefer - then in the full reaction make 2 versions, 1 dubbed with English actors and the other in the original Japanese language. LM does not divulge which version they watched. Before editing, the 2nd audio is added so both audio versions are in the video file - then begin editing, at the end select audio1 and render, then have to switch to audio2 and render to create the 2nd video. It could work! **So far only a small fraction have voted, typical vote totals should be 1,200+

A positive aspect of the dub is that you will be less focused on reading the subtitles, and you can enjoy the animation which is very good, as good as Korra for me.

I heard many times that alot of ppl find the dub versions of Death Note and FMAB better than the sub, but are those the only cases in the dub world? Is there any other show where ppl prefer dub?

Dub and sub are both very good, however there have been some questionable allegations against the VA for the main character in Dub, nothing confirmed as far as I’m aware but it’s up to you!

I think the dub being better is just native english speakers saying it is, because that's just what they saw first and are familiar with. I don't think I've ever spoken to anyone who isn't a native english speaker and actually prefers the english dub. Because why would they? If I were you, I'd just watch the first episode in english and then in japanese, and then decide which one you prefer.

We all have our own preferences, but I've never felt so strongly about mine that I thought it necessary to belittle other fans for disagreeing. I only watched the original Full Metal Alchemist and the dub was very good, not sure about Brotherhood bc I only watched the subbed.

FMAB might have the best dub of any anime ever! Its literally that great to watch in DUB!

I choose sub because 9/10 times there is simply more range for talent when viewed in the original language. However! When a show goes out of its way to focus on a dub with the same enthusiasm and raw energy that English cartoons or animations bring, I’ll consider it. And then there are shows like this and cowboy bebop and space dandy that are simply meant to be watched dub because it was part of the vision when making the show. FMA was originally Japanese, yes, but the content in the show feels more relatable with an English attitude…at least, that’s my two cents

As a non (native) english speaker I always prefer sub, especially in fmab. I think that most people recommending dub are native eng speakers.

Not gonna bet on it, but I believe 80% of the people who voted dub have never seen a single episode in sub. But whatever, I have to respect the result of the poll I guess.

This is one of my favorite series of all time. I've watched it both in sub and dub multiple times. Honestly, it doesn't matter which one wins the poll because they are both S tier stuff. The story is just as emotive, funny, sad, hype, etc and the characters are voiced by an insanely talented cast in both versions. Let's just enjoy the series. In the end the language is seriously a nonissue.

I've never seen this show so I guess I'll follow along with whatever is chosen but I really do favor subs for foreign language shows. How many people have actually watched both? I imagine a lot of people are just yelling about the one they have seen instead of being able to genuinely compare.

They’re both dubs. We just prefer the english dub because it’s the language we understand, and imo the voice acting is better. Include the subtitles for non-English speakers if you like.

Japanese VA’s Romi Park is a legend and by far my favourite Edward. People will have different takes on the sub-dub debate for FMAB and for me it’s fine either way, but I really like sub more. It just throws me off when people pretend the sub is objectively inferior, which it isn’t in the slightest. Well, dub is still probably gonna win so it is what it is.

Gonna be honest here, idc what language y’all watch it in, but after AoT ends I’m unsubscribing. I’m not sticking around to watch FMAB. That show is too overrated and people only watch it because it’s “popular.”

Ok, here are my two cents. I watched both versions. Both are great. And if both are great, I'd go with the original material which is subbed. There are some scenes imo where the Japanese voice actors are better than their American counterpart.

The dub is really good on thos one. I've seen it in both, and the dub wins out on this one for me.

Literally i am someone that is 98% a sub watcher, but It is not because I hate dubs, but only that I have almost NEVER found a dub to be BETTER than the Sub. So why would I watch something worse, you know? Plus dub has some translation issues, and dub voice actors are 95% of the time terrible. Dub died around 2010. Now we have 16 year olds sounding like 30 year olds...BUT Basically my point is, I literally will watch whatever the show is best in, it just so happens to be that its almost always sub.. But, that is not the case with FMAB. Genuinely from the bottom of my heart one of, if not the best dub out there. Fmab, baccano, and cowboy bebop are the only shows I can genuinely say the dub is FAR better than the sub. Fmab dub is literally more in tune with what the mangaka wanted. Apparently, she prefers it herself. Its not everyday you can watch a dub this good. Youd be honestly missing out if you didnt watch it dubbed.

fyi the main character’s japanese voice actor is also the same as hange’s so if that might be weird for you maybe choose the dub. ultimately i still prefer the sub but the dub is respectable imo

I think that FMA:B has the best English dub of any Anime ever made. This is the one and only time you should watch the dub version of a show. The VAs did an absolutely stellar job!

Actually hearing a language you can understand adds so much to the emotional impact the lines have, it's just that normally the VA is just so much better in the sub than in the dub. However, FMA:B has to be the most famous example of it actually being the other way around, the English VA's did a tremendous job on this one. Really hope they go dub.

Both sub and dub are great because the story is amazing. A beautiful tale of love, friendship, sacrifice, and what it means to be human. Ms. Arakawa crafted something special with this one, and I hope they enjoy. Also, a plus that it has the two best boys in all of anime.

With Death Note I was clearly in favour of the sub, although I always watch the two final episodes in the dub, but with FMA the dub should clearly be chosen. I even just took the trouble to look at YouTube and, with the exception of FilmBuff, every reacter was watching the dub. And FilmBuff has only watched the first 5 episodes so far and is currently pausing the show so as not to overwork himself. I can imagine that he will change to the Dub. For example, GoodwinTV switched to dub after two episodes. In the end, I have one more idea for you: Watch the first two episodes as the winner here in this poll and then just watch the two episodes again as a rewatch in the other variant. Then you can still decide which you liked better.

People who opt for subs because it "preserves the original intent" forget that people consume media to enjoy it, not as an intellectual exercise. Thinking subs preserve the original intent is also cope. Not only are you reading an altered *translation* but you are watching with your cultural context, not that of a Japanese upbringing. You will never experience the original intent, and that's okay! Just enjoy the dubs when the English actors are better (like this show) and the subs when the Japanese actors are better (e.g., Attack on Titan and most animes honestly).

I voted for sub, but whatever, both are great. Although I must admit that for non-Japanese speakers (like me), the jokes and gags are funnier in the English dub, because they didn't just translate, they localized the dialogue with minor adaptations

I like the dub better in the original FMA. Brotherhood uses a lot of the same VAs, but they replaced one of the two MCs with a VA I can't stand it that role. Also the other MC is Hange's VA in Japanese. That's why I voted for sub.

Honestly, I personally feel like all forms of art media should he watched in there original format. Can you imagine people convincing you that Breaking Bad is better with Spanish dub? Not to mention the main character in fullmetal is voiced by Hange from AoT’s voice actor and she kills it. The old man doing a super looney tunes voice for Ed is just cringe.
