Can’t wait for 4x15, that’s my favorite episode in this season after 4x5
that episode is also my 2nd favorite after the declaration of war.
This episode i was feeling so sad about so many characters. EMA, Levi, Zeke, Keith, everyone was suffering emotionally and physically. Savagery was a very fitting title.
Good job on picking up the little details. When Keith Sadies provoked the cadets, it is likely that he did it to encourage them to beat him up so they wouldn't become prisoners. A lot of people don't make that connection.

This was the episode after which I realised that season 1, hell even season 3 was an easier time than this.
I remember when I first read this part in the manga, I was so pissed I was like EREN YOU ASS
Also someone pointed it out but I just wanted to bring it up again, what Eren said about Ackermans was complete BS because if it were true, there's no way Levi would have let Erwin, who he was completely devoted to, die. Not only did Levi tell Erwin to die when Erwin was contemplating taking the soldiers and marching toward the beast titan, he also didn't choose to bring him back and chose Armin instead, if Ackermans were meant to only serve, then he would have chose Erwin.
Erwin is not the founding titan though like Eren and Uri

Eren's argument is bullshit. Kenny Ackerman knew 100% Uri was the founding titan and yet didn't hesitate to hurl a knife at his chest.
And Kenny only relented once Uri bowed before him and made himself vulnerable

I think the truly cruelest thing about the EMA interaction this episode is something that you two touched on in the review when you said, "Eren can save Mikasa...PHYSICALLY." But emotionally? I don't know. I truly hope there is a chance for some kind of interaction/forgiveness between the two of them before the end, but I just worry that in his single-minded determination to "save" her, Eren is irrevocably breaking her instead.

You know what hurts more than Mikasa stopping Armin from punching Eren? It's when Mikasa didn't stop Eren from beating up Armin.
I mean she's beat up eren for being rude to armin before like in ep 2 of s1, she was just in so much shock she couldn't get in the way cause she didn't know what she'd do

If you ever decide to read the manga, I´m sure you won´t regret it. There are details, moments, and many more that enrich the story. But, if you can wait and avoid spoilers as much as possible, the next part airs on January 9th next year. I´m looking forward to your reactions <3

Also we keep talking about the scouts caring for innocent people from marley but i don't remember them caring for innocent people from paradis who died in their plans like capturing annie in the capital , they did risky plans with them knowing that innocent can die
that was when erwin was in charge. ngl erwin mightve stood with Eren's faction. he always willing to sacrifice alot even if its a small step forward.
In my mind there is no greater way toward peace than the way that Karl Fritz choose by apologizing to the ennemies gaving them titans and his people and going faaar to confine his people between walls and erasing their memories (even if i'm not okay with the kings decision) . But even with that marley choose to attack to have ressources + the founding titan
While i really do sympathize with his stance of just wanting peace and being so tired of fighting anymore some of my biggest problems with the King's actions were that he run away leaving behind so many of his people to suffer and that he had accepted their ancestor's sins as something the people of today deserved to be punished for, so he wouldn't do anything when they attacked the walls.
Not sure they will see this easily but the song that plays when Levi shows back up is called "K21" from the AOT Season 3 soundtrack.
Seeing Mikasa quietly say 'Please stop' really parallels Bert saying the same when Annie and Reiner are fighting in episode 3
Lola, I feel you, even before finishing seasn 4a I started the manga because I needed to know how it ended. Bad decision because I caught up when the maga wasn't finished yet and it was even worse to wait because it was like a chapter a month if I remember correctly. A nightmare.
I also think you'd enjoy the manga. Mikasa's character is better in the manga in my opinion. Many of her scenes in the manga were cut just for her to sigh "Eren" in the anime. It's honestly kind of annoying how much of her personality was cut off.

Armin jumped to protect Mikasa but didn’t earlier when he was being insulted which shows a great lot about Armin’s selfhatred, him feeling unable to match to Erwin and reason with his bestfriend.
To add to that Mikasa was about to start defending Armin and argue but then Eren stopped her with the "Mikasa, you too".

I feel like one of the reason why many people dislike floch is that his character isn’t just about wanting to protect paradise and his people. We saw floch basically bask in joy after their assault on Liberio, which resulted in the death of countless innocents, we saw him make that sadistic smile after hange’s realisation that she’s been fooled by the yeagerist and finally in this episode, we saw him ask new soldiers to basically beat keith sadis (the instructor) to the death to « prove » their loyalty to the yeagerist’s cause even though it was not necessary at all. Beyond his love for his country and his people, he seems to be a pretty wicked person. I feel like people would’ve empathized with him better if he had some self awareness about his actions (not that I complain, I really like how the character is written and what he brings to the story, I was just trying to understand why many people are hostile to him).
He seemed to have some self awareness straight after the suicide charge about how he’s expendable and that they were manipulated into joining etc etc but now he seems to have dropped any kind of self reflection however that does not mean I don’t like his character and I think the way things are now with him makes perfect sense.
I think the other clue for telling that Eren is lying is that, back in Season 3, we had that flashback between Kenny and the former King i forgot his name, and he was basically telling Kenny about how the royal blood family works etc and he mentionned that there were others high clan/family there and two of them disagreed with King Fritz : The Ackermann and the Asian (probably the Azumabito Clan) and that the King's power didn't affect them, like he couldn't erase their memories at all. So would it be believable that Ackermann's would be slaves toward someone if they are originally one of the only eldians that can't be affected by the powers of the Fouding Titan ?

Levi is one of the most tragic characters. He's been losing people from the beginning. His two friends from the underground, his old squad(Petra, Eld, Oluo & Gunther), Erwin, and now the entirety of his new squad Pain might as well be the man's shadow💔

if you guys noticed at that little shot of the scouts in prison, mikasa wasn't wearing her scarf :/ also i love zeke, probably my second fav character in the show. also in the previous episode pyxis said that a good lie has some truth in it, which is very much applicable to the table scene so do with that what you will. they cut out a bit from the manga, but what eren said to her gave her an identity crisis and that the real mikasa never existed hence why she basically froze up. reading this as the chapters were releasing was hell bc i think i hated eren for a good 4 months
Finally another Zeke fan I thought I was alone out here he is my second favorite character as well under Eren but straight above Reiner. In this season his character became so much deeper and more complex it’s insane and my sympathy for him grew a lot I never expected I could like him but this season made him one of my favorites.

I think another dimension about Levi's character is that, not only does he see everyone dying, precisely because he's the strongest around, chances are he's probably going to survive almost every scenario. Besides the fact he probably struggles with this himself, his comrades know this and, therefore, dedicate their heart already knowing that, even if they die, they can count on Levi to "finish" the job. This burden is something that only adds to Levi's suffering, but also resolve.
It is tricky to say "Marley wanted to attack Paradis Island, so Eren attacks first". Because after the reveal of Zeke working with Eren, if you remember; Zeke was the person who proposed to launch an attack Paradis Island in the Marlian military Counsel in episode two. It was that episode where he also made the Tybur family, the holder of the Warhammer Titan, to be put on an obvious position and all of these turned out to be part of the plan for Eren to have the Warhammer power. Therefore, who really attacks who first? This is just another infinite knot that cannot be unsolved after so many history and bloodshed.
Yes i mostly agree but my impression was that they were definitely going to attack the island pretty soon regardless of Zeke/ Eren's actions. Marley was barely holding back other countries' advancing weaponry, their scout ships kept vanishing and they really needed the island's resources to fight everyone back. Also Willy's plan of uniting everyone against paradis. If I'm mistaken or misremembering something please let me know.
Probably the reaction I was most looking forward to this season (tied with episode 8 I think). Your analysis is always spot on. On a different note; i’m sure you’ve probably been spammed with this already but when you guys get a space to start a new show I’d highly recommend “Arcane” on Netflix. Currently the top rated animated series ever (above Avatar:TLA). It’s definitely the sort of thing you guys’d love.
