Oh boy I can’t wait for all the wholesome episodes that are coming up after this 🙂↔️🙂↔️🙂↔️
*Happy cheery "Misato's Apartment" theme plays while screams of horror and anguish echo in the distance*

This may be considered the most laid-back of the episodes because it's entirely setup, but I always love its atmosphere and how we revisit pretty much all of the characters to get a scene with them.
"Fourth Children" just means "Fourth Child", since Japanese doesn't actually make the plural between singular and plural in the same way English does. If you listen to the voice actors they have been saying "Children" not "Child" the whole time, but it's translated as "Child" because it's awkward for English speakers. The episode title wasn't translated because it was done in English.
There is no official explanation as to why a pilot is called “Children,” and several theories have circulated. This is a spoiler, but my favorite theory is: that since Rei Ayanami is one of many clones, they are collectively referred to as “Children.”
Back in that episode where Shinji runs away for a couple days, Kensuke tells him that his mother is dead too.
Doesn't he just say he doesn't have a mother? Also, given their track record with names you probably have to tell them who Kensuke is.
I thought about pointing out that there's text during the newspaper montage last episode but figured I should leave it up to you if you choose to look deeper into it of your own accord. Doing literal frame-by-frame analysis, ah true Evangelion fans. Now for the OP.... (Kidding) (Unless you want to)
Oh girls. You’re IN for A RIDE. Non stop awesomeness from here.
47:25 That recurring nature sound you hear in the background is actually cicadas. In Japan, they’re usually associated with summer. In Evangelion, you hear them so often because of the global warming and environmental changes caused by Second Impact. Circadas are not just associated with summer in Japan. They are summer, whever they live. They are super loud. Deafening. Their grubs live in the ground for years just to emerge for one season, mate, lay eggs, and die. Plus ruin any possibility of f peace.
Current EVA Units and their pilots: Unit 00: Rei Ayanami Unit 01: Shinji Ikari Unit 02: Asuka Langley Soryu Unit 03: Toji Suzuhara Unit 04: destroyed/vanished, along with NERV Branch 2 So Shinji and Asuka's EVAs have had the dummy plug installed, not Rei’s.
jajaja hoy si me hicieron reir con lo de la hermana pero capitulo tranquilo despues de algunos un tanto intensos emocionalmente
Just a heads up the next episode starts in English, your settings aren't messed up.
In relation to Lola reading the newspaper headlines in the intro, it’s worth a reminder that NERVs motto is “God’s in His heaven, All’s right with the world”. A line from poet Robert Browning. The full context of the line goes as follows: “The year's at the spring, And day's at the morn; Morning's at seven; The hill-side's dew-pearl'd; The lark's on the wing; The snail's on the thorn; God's in His heaven, All's right with the world!” In the context of the verse, it’s a celebration of the harmony of nature, and that all is in balance due to a benevolent creator watching over all from Heaven. What it means in the context of NERV is another matter, but that’s worth discussing a little later on in the show.
You completely forgot one little detail - only 14 year olds. And taking screens paper clippings is the best thing you could have done at this point. Points you in the correct direction. EDIT: Nevermind, you figured it out. The only thing you forgot is Ritsuko's line from this episode: 'We have a pilot who's core we can prepare straight away'. That would have cleared a ton of things immediately.
I don't think they missed that since they mentioned "core?" after it and that spun them into discussing it as Toji's sister. Unless you mean they forgot about it in the discussion, which I haven't gotten to.
Hi! my comments about this episode: Kaji finally confirms what his investigation in Episode 15 had already suggested about the Marduk Institute. Code 707 refers to Shinji’s school, while the Marduk Institute itself does not actually exist. NERV itself is the organization that truly controls the pilot selection process. This becomes directly relevant with the selection of the Fourth Child. Ritsuko’s familiarity with the candidates also shows that she is already aware of the system behind the Marduk Institute, while Misato is still being kept in the dark. NERV’s Second Branch in Nevada, United States, disappears along with Unit-04 and the related research facilities within an 89 km radius, taking thousands of people with it. The accident occurs during the installation of a restored S² Engine in Unit-04. S² stands for Super Solenoid, the new engine being tested in the Evangelion. Ritsuko suggests that the facility may have been swallowed by a Sea of Dirac, directly recalling what happened with the Twelfth Angel in the previous episode. After the loss of Unit-04, Unit-03, which was built in the United States, is transferred to Japan. NERV plans its activation test at Matsushiro with the newly selected Fourth Child as its pilot. This also explains why the search for another pilot suddenly becomes relevant rather than remaining another background detail of the Marduk Institute. When Gendo says that "Man was cast out of the garden of Eden and forced to flee into a world where death could come at any moment," he is invoking the Biblical story of Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Their disobedience became the basis of the Christian doctrine of Original Sin and is traditionally associated with humanity’s loss of innocence. They gain knowledge but are expelled before reaching the Tree of Life and becoming immortal, leaving humanity with knowledge but separated from divine life. This connects with Episode 12, when Gendo described Antarctica as a world purified of Original Sin. In Evangelion, the Tree of Life also appears as the Kabbalistic diagram of the ten sefirot, the symbol seen in the opening sequence and in Gendo’s office. The sefirot represent the emanations connecting creation with the divine, reinforcing the contrast between the knowledge humanity obtained and the divine life it could not reach. After Gendo says humanity used that knowledge to build its own paradise, Kaji’s watermelon garden provides a small literal echo, with Kaji cultivating a paradise of his own. Kaji’s conversation with Shinji returns to the Hedgehog’s Dilemma. Closeness can bring both comfort and pain, while Kaji’s suggestion that suffering can deepen kindness recalls Schopenhauer’s ethics of compassion, in which another person’s suffering can weaken egoistic separation and become a motive for loving-kindness. Kensuke Aida, Shinji’s military-obsessed classmate, is absent from school because he has gone to see Myōkō. This is likely a reference to the JMSDF destroyer Myōkō, launched in 1994 and commissioned in 1996. The name had also previously been used by an Imperial Japanese Navy heavy cruiser, continuing Evangelion’s recurring use of Japanese naval names.
