i have gotten two headaches now because of this episode

The series can be concluded without the movies, but it would be the greatest loss. The End of Evangelion and Evangelion Thrice Upon a Time are experimental masterpieces!
please watch the rebuild movies
Also, an unexpected outcome will be you becoming experts in the bible in your atempt to understand this anime
Ok, without spoilers and short: Back in the 90's the lasts episodes of this anime were a little difficult to understand for some people, so years later they make a second try to tell the same ending. That is why the movie is called "The end of evangelion". And despite that, in my opinion is worth it to watch.
Yeah you really only need to watch The End of Evangelion movie to get full closure. The other movies are the rebuild series and they're a kind of "requel" series (both a remake and a sequel) in that they're technically sequels to the main series but also pretty closely follow the same events as the original series with new elements, so it's complicated.
amo que no haya musica en este capitulo, ademas del opening y del ending
I really hope these two work as a tag team in a state intelligence agency or at least as criminal profilers. Freaking masters of deduction.
Welcome to the second half of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Like another comment said, just start with End of Evangelion (1997), and the Rebuild movies which started coming out from 2007-2021 are an optional thing that you can consider much later. But either way you will get the full story by watching the anime series and the first movie.
- We saw Rei bleed in the first episode, a frame of it was shown in this episode in the recap. It's what motivated Shinji to get in the Eva, so that Rei wouldn't have to - I always took "i sense the presence of someone who is not me" as a lead-in to the next scene, which is her being in Unit 01. Just like how Shinji also senses Rei when he is in Unit 00. It's a new experience, so it feels odd. They can sense the residue or "impression" of the other pilot who is normally in the Eva, which makes sense why it would smell like the other person.
This is another one of those episodes where the creative style of Eva is just oozing from every scene. I love the choice to have no music for the recap, just sound effects, for the framing device of it being publicly available information, the excerpts from Shinji's classmates. The white text on black background with only silence is iconic and continues to show the genius behind Eva's sound design. The Rei segment is so evocative, listening with headphones the combination of the voice acting and the music is truly transportive. I also love how when Shinji thinks of Rei when in Unit 00 the backgrounds are edited to all be red, it's just so damn stylistic.
This monologue is one of my favorite scenes. It fascinated me endlessly as a teenager, and reveals Rei having a much richer interiority than she presents. It also has a kind of lyrical repetitive rhythm that reminds me of spoken word.
I know L&M are confused, but they have much more of this figured out than I did the first time I watched, lol. Genuinely, they are doing well with the small hints that Eva gives.
Yeah, it would be interesting if they watched the rebuild movies 6 months to 1 year after the series and end of eva. Then waited 1-3 more year or so until the new eva series comes out from taro.
I think they'd love the rebuild movies after finishing End of Evangelion, obv if/when they have the time
I think the rebuild movies are kind of divisive, a lot of people don't like them, and also they tell a different story from the original work. In my opinion, it's better to make only the anime + the End of Evangelion movie as a "must watch", and leave the Rebuilds as optional, if they really want to watch them later.
Little fun fact - SEELE was originally meant to be called ESSENE. But the authors considered it to be a bit too on the nose (it was).
The Dead Sea Scrolls in the real world are the earliest known copies of books from the Bible. Red dirt references how Adam was made from red dust. The Spear of Longinus is a mythological artifact that supposedly has the ability to hurt/kill divine beings. This comes from post-Bible mythology, but in the actual Biblical story, after Jesus is crucified, to verify that he's actually dead, the unnamed soldier later identified as Longinus pierces Jesus's side with a spear. Water came out of Jesus, along with the blood. In later tradition, this very act of wounding Christ later led to Longinus eventual conversion. SEELE means "soul" in German.
The girls know how to use google.
Did I see some mistranslations?
Speaking of 'recaps' - I don't know if you've recorded everything yet - but in case you haven't - when you're done with the original 26 episode run and about to watch End of Evangelion - do not skip Death (I think on Netflix it is True 2 version of it). It is meant to be watched in tandem with EoE and is always shown together during special theatrical re-releases / is bundled with it in "Revival" boxset for that reason. Now, anime munchkins on reddit who's only concern is to tick a box and move on to the next thing will tell you in unison that 'oHhh iT's jUst a rECaP' and that it should be skipped. Which really pisses me off as I foolishly followed those people's advice when I watched EoE the first time. The same folks that would go on to say 'ohhh I had no idea what was happening in EoE even after a second watch'. Which is the most insufferable thing to witness. Don't make the same mistake. Watching Death + EoE is an entirely different experience from jumping straight into EoE after episode 26. Won't say any more to not spoil stuff, just me personally would never recommend anyone to skip it after watching 1 to 26. Having observed you over the first 14, I know that you will appreciate "Death". I know I've talked about that already under one of the prior episodes, but 14th is a good moment to bring this up.
I disagree. I don't think it's meant to be a necessary part of the viewing experience, recap movies are more of a thing the anime industry does to hold people over until more content comes out. Yes I'm aware there's like one or two extra scenes, but I don't think the whole thing is worth it just for that and they will still get the full story by just watching the movie.
I updated the Tiermaker, because I was bored. You can make a 10 year special October 24 and rank the shows if you want :D https://tiermaker.com/create/lm-reactions-shows-tier-list-17551660
Vinland Saga S3?
I still think that the best recap episode is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 27. No one did it better.
This show is famous in the anime community for giving the biggest headaches lol good luck.
And this is when I’m expecting more confusion and more “what’s that..or what is that..” or just the girls being confused lol I haven’t watched the reaction yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if they left with more questions than answers 🙂↔️
i dont know when we have been left with more answers than questions
The series has just begun!! Let the mind shenanigans roll!!
Hi! my comments and eastar eggs about this episode: Although the first half of this episode is mostly a recap, it is structured in a very deliberate way. Instead of simply replaying previous scenes, the battles against the Angels are revisited as part of an official review of NERV's operations by Gendo and the committee. This adds another layer of meaning to the episode's English title, "Weaving a Story," by suggesting how an official version of history can be shaped through what is recorded, classified, acknowledged, or omitted. This becomes especially obvious when Gendo denies that the Eleventh Angel, Ireul, ever infiltrated NERV Headquarters, claiming that there is no corresponding record in the MAGI. There was also a practical production reason for the unusual structure. According to the official Platinum Edition episode commentary, Episode 14 aired in the Tokyo region on January 3, 1996 at 8:00 in the morning, an irregular New Year broadcast time for the series. Because of this, the episode was designed partly as a recap for viewers who might be watching outside its usual schedule. The production also reused an enormous amount of existing footage, with only around 500 new animation cels produced for the entire episode. Hideaki Anno nevertheless uses that limitation creatively. This episode also introduces the name of the organization SEELE for the first time. "Seele" is the German word for "soul," while the Japanese title of the episode, "SEELE, tamashii no za," can roughly be translated as "SEELE, the Seat/Throne of the Soul." The title becomes especially interesting during Rei's monologue when she describes the Entry Plug itself as a "seat" or "throne" for the soul, introducing one of the episode's central questions: where exactly does the self reside? During the meeting, SEELE also mentions the Dead Sea Scrolls, stating, "The timeline is proceeding as set in the Dead Sea Scrolls." The Dead Sea Scrolls are real ancient Jewish manuscripts discovered near Qumran beginning in 1947, dating roughly from the last centuries BCE to the first century CE. Evangelion's idea that they predict the Angels and provide a secret blueprint for future events is fictional, but the reference is not completely random. Among the real Scrolls are fragments of the Book of Enoch and other Jewish apocalyptic writings containing material about angels, heavenly beings, divine judgment, and cosmic order. This also connects with several Angel names used throughout Evangelion, many of which ultimately come from Enochic and later Jewish angelological traditions. The same meeting introduces the name "Spear of Longinus." The reference comes from later Christian tradition surrounding the crucifixion of Jesus. In the Gospel of John, an unnamed Roman soldier pierces Jesus' side with a spear, but the Bible never identifies him as Longinus. The name developed through later Christian apocryphal and medieval traditions, and the weapon eventually became known as the Holy Lance or Spear of Longinus. As mentioned in previous comments, Evangelion borrows freely from Jewish, Christian, apocryphal, and esoteric traditions to construct its own mythology rather than following a consistent theological system. The most important part of the episode for me is Rei's internal monologue. She begins by identifying basic things such as mountains, sky, water, flowers, blood, the human body, cities, and the Eva, but gradually turns that process toward herself. At one point she says, "Human beings made from red clay. Human beings made from man and woman," before questioning whether humanity was created by God or by humanity itself. The reference to humans being formed from earth clearly evokes Genesis 2:7, where God creates Adam from the dust of the ground. There is also a wordplay in the original Hebrew between adam, meaning "human" or Adam, and adamah, meaning "ground" or "soil." Rei's monologue therefore moves from the Biblical idea of humanity as something created by God toward cities and Evangelions as things created by humans, before turning the question of creation back onto humanity itself. The sequence eventually arrives at the question "Who am I?" Rei seems able to identify the world around her more easily than she can define herself, and her uncertainty about her own identity becomes connected to the people she knows. She recognizes Shinji directly as "Ikari-kun," while referring to Asuka only as "the pilot of Unit-02" (lol XD). This also relates back to the Hedgehog's Dilemma introduced in Episode 3, since Evangelion continues exploring how our relationships with others can be necessary for connection while also exposing us to emotional pain. Hideaki Anno later discussed having difficulty writing this monologue. During production, a friend showed him a poem written by a psychiatric patient, and Anno said it strongly affected him and helped him find the approach for Rei's internal monologue. He had become increasingly interested in psychology while making Evangelion and described the series as a way of examining and expressing his own mind. The scene works well as an exploration of fragmented identity and uncertainty about the boundaries of the self. Unit-00 later attacks the observation room. This directly recalls the failed activation test discussed in Episode 5, when Unit-00 also went out of control while Rei was piloting it. Misato wonders whether its target this time was Rei, while Ritsuko believes that Unit-00 was actually targeting her.
I appreciate these nuggets of knowledge.. see I forgot where the name Longinus actually came from. Thanks for the quick reminder.
yeah, the fun has just begun.
The rebuild movies are must watch but after 6 months.
I really don’t think they are must watch. It’s a different thing of its own. Someone can choose to watch it or avoid it.
Let the good times roll!
