Loved the reactions of this whole season <3 nice to rewatch it again with you girls! Also, I recommend search on YouTube the comparison of the different versions of Your Are My Special intro, there are probably 3 or 4. Can't wait for next season reaction!!!!

I love that JJK doesn’t just scale its characters up to match the threat. This is something you see a lot in anime like Demon Slayer and My Hero, which I still enjoy, but JJK feels much more grounded in its power scaling. Characters don’t suddenly unlock a new power we’ve never seen just because the plot needs them to win. When Nanami said, “We’re all screwed,” it actually felt believable. Yuji didn’t suddenly scream louder and become strong enough to fight someone completely out of his league. The people who are stronger stay stronger, and the people who are weaker stay weaker. That’s why characters like Gojo, Yuki, and Yuta are so important. JJK has to actually give you a logical reason for why someone can overcome a threat. It can’t just hand them a power-up and call it a day, and I really appreciate that.

O
OriginalsFX · August 8, 2026

JJK has so many characters that genuinely feel like main characters. I feel like a lot of other anime couldn’t survive if you removed someone like Gojo or Geto, but JJK does such a good job cycling in new characters who are just as interesting. Even when a character gets removed or killed, there’s always someone else who can step up and have their moment. I also love that I never watch JJK thinking, “Where’s Yuji? I need to see Yuji.” Everyone gets a chance to show out and be the protagonist of their own story. That’s something I think JJK does better than a lot of other anime.

O
OriginalsFX · August 8, 2026

One of the most annoying things when I’m watching anime or any show with villains who are supposed to be terrifying is when those villains never actually do anything bad. There are no real consequences. They come close to killing the protagonist over and over again, but somehow nobody important ever pays the price. That can get really frustrating because it makes the villains feel less dangerous. I love that in JJK, the people who are supposed to be bad actually kill the good guys, and the good guys actually kill the bad guys. It isn’t just a constant cycle of “almost” moments where every dangerous enemy somehow gets defeated without anything serious happening. The consequences actually match the threat level, and that makes the world feel much more believable.

SCHOK JOHNNY · August 8, 2026

Jujutsu Kaisen, I swear. 🎵YOU ARE MY SPECIAL🎵 🗣🕺

O
OriginalsFX · August 8, 2026

It’s wild how severe the consequences are in JJK. I remember when I first watched the show and Gojo got sealed, I thought, “Okay, it’s bad, but everyone will probably just band together and fight back.” And while that does happen in a way, the amount of people who die and the damage that’s done in the process is insane lol. The story really shows how much Gojo was holding everything together. Get Gojo back NOW 😂

hasi d · August 8, 2026

About season 3 - I agree with other people in the comments suggesting to watch and post episodes 1&2 together at once, because MAPPA released them together as a season 3 premiere and before that there was a compilation movie which is basically the recap of season 2 Shibuya Incident + these first 2 episodes of season 3. It's just better for the story continuity and discussion-wise, but of course the choise is yours. You were wondering why Rika still here with Yuta and I want to explain it. Don't worry, it's not a spoiler because they literally showed her and it's not some major plot point. In the end of JJK0 movie they show us Rika who is relesed from the curse that Yuta put on her and she basically passed. People reasonably assumed that Rika is free now and no longer with Yuta, however what happened is human!Rika soul got released from the curse and was now able to move to the afterlife but the curse!Rika stayed with Yuta as his shikigami because, well, he's the one who accidentally created this curse with his huge uncontrolled amount of cursed energy

The importance of the ideological ending of The Hidden Inventory arc really gets highlighted during the Shibuya arc; Hanami, Dagon, Jogo and Mahito all got exorcised by the "outliers", Satorou, Toji, Sukuna and "brain". Furthermore, the sorcerers that survive either got saved or escaped, Yuji, Megumi and Kyoto school got saved by family/special grades, Choso/Toji/Todo and Sukuna/Yuki. The current state of jujutsu society only functions on the back of the special grades, but they have all realized it's unsustainable since they can't be everywhere and the first grade sorcereres also understand this by choosing wether they are willing to die for the children or escaping for themselves. I always feel like I can't blame someone for saving themselves like Kusakabe while it's easy to blame Mei Mei for trying to profit off of it. It seems like this is Gege's critique of society, his favorite character dies for good while the selfish stay alive. Mei Mei's technique furthers this view of society rewarding selfishness, her strength comes from sacrificing others, her crows. The higher ups decision to forbid attempts at unsealing Satorou really shows their role in this story, they couldn't do anything about the Shibuya incident yet they are okay with Satorou's sealing since he can no longer oppose them. The higher ups want Sataorou Gojo becuase he is the strongest not the strongest because he is Satorou Gojo. The higher ups are more concerned with maintaining their power than actually being powerful and the same can be seen with Toji and the Zenin clan, the head of the clan was nothing compared to Toji in the fight against Dagon. "Brain" using Suguru's body for a more ideological mission but very different from Suguru's, "brain" driven by curiosity opposed to Suguru driven by neccesity to protect. Their mirroring of each other can also be seen in their techniques, one controls cursed spirits while the other controls humans. Ending the season with a showdown between sorcerers and cursed users sets an interesting ground for the rest of the story, will we be trying to oppose "brain" while curses keep spawning, will the current issues get in the way of trying to solve the issue of curses, will Nanami's keep dying while we are fighting other humans?

The blacked circle isn't expanding. That's just the remains of Shibuya after Sukuna's Domain. No lights left

F
Flubbedsquid · August 8, 2026

It is absolutely expanding. Look closely, you can see it happen. Not to mention that by the end of the episode, the black circle touches Tokyo Bay. At the beginning, it was isolated to shibuya.

S
SCHOK JOHNNY · August 8, 2026

It bums me out they didn't stuck it out the whole way like "Lost in Paradise". They watched that ending all the way through for each episode, and even the 2nd ending for Season 1. I really, really hope they don't skip the ending for Season 3 and play it for a few episodes, at least.

Just want to say thanks for reviving my love of this series! I got spoiled at the halfway point of S2 while it was airing and dropped it completely. Decided to give it another go when your 2x1 reaction popped up. Watching your reactions/discussions made me remember how much I actually loved jjk as a whole. So yeah no big deal or anything lol.

So Inumaki was saving everyone on the streets of Shibuya before Sukuna got released. There was a like second focus on that; and during Sukuna's fight people that were hiding mentioned "the guy told us to stay here." So ya Inumaki was running around and likely got caught up in the chaos of Sukuna's fight against Megumi's shikigami.

A
AnGecko · August 8, 2026

I think a lot of people consider season 2 to be the peak of whats been animated of jjk so far, and for valid reasons. The storytelling especially in hidden inventory was phenomenal, but I have to say I have such a sweet spot for a lot of the character work thats built on in season 3. I definitely am looking forward to seeing your thoughts on some of the characters and themes in season 3 given what you've been a fan of so far with jjk, I can think of some that might generate quite the discussions

C
Chlo · August 8, 2026

I definitely think they're going to have some really great discussions during s3!

A
Aglio Olio · August 8, 2026

Milena being a doomer after this season is so real

A
AnGecko · August 8, 2026

fun detail is that they edited the intro slightly for this episode to swap the scene when shoko is smoking on the railing to a quick clip of yuta drawing his sword, and also added the giant crater of shibuya we saw at the end of the episode to make it even more bleak

S

Inumaki is very briefly shown during Sukuna's fight with Mahoraga. We know he was out there protecting citizens in the streets like when he allowed Yuji to pass him and go straight for floor B5 so I believe we're meant to assume Inumaki lost his arms by being within the radius of Sukuna's domain because his technique is cutting & slashing.

P
Pebbles Macondo · August 7, 2026

"He wants to make jujutsu sorcery great again" is a great comment actually, because it gets to the themes of jjk. The Heian era which he wants to bring about is the final era of classical japanese history (in jjk world also the final ''great'' era of jujutsu sorcery, where might makes right etc.). Gojo is trying to fight against the conservative corrupt old school jujutsu establishment by creating a new generation of jujutsu sorcerers, why they are trying to keep the system as it ''always'' was, and the main villain right now is trying to go back to an even older, more violent time, where the only thing that matters is how strong you are, and the powerful do whatever they like. A new generation fighting against an old corrupt system, while even worse enemies try to bring about a new but actually very old system where might makes right.

P
Pebbles Macondo · August 7, 2026

I think there are obvious real world parallels (not one to one, but they are there).

Gucci Pucci · August 7, 2026

When Mahoraga (One of Megumi‘s untamed shadows) and Sukuna were fighting we saw a frame of Inumaki with his megaphone standing in the street and looking towards the explosions, then as the people hiding in the stores get shredded by Sukuna‘s domain one of the women says „it‘ll be fine we have that guy with the megaphone-". He probably got caught in that since Malevolent Shrine (Sukunas Domain) doesn’t have a barrier

J
Jack SV · August 7, 2026

From this point onward I pick up the manga since I saw my boy came back to the story and also at this point I think the manga was done so I decided to finish the story.. so I haven’t seen season 3.. all I know it’s that has 8 episodes I think ..? Without saying too much but I feel that you girls will enjoyed the rest that is to come. Now how good will they adapt the rest of the material I don’t know but they have been doing good so far so shout out to all the overwork animators at MAPPA..I feel bad for them :(

H
Hollow · August 8, 2026

S3 is 12 episodes. And they're doing a fantastic job animating. Every season gets better and better. It'll probably need at least another season or two, or maybe 1 season and a movie, to finish the series.

C
Cowboy Dio · August 7, 2026

Theres a moment when Sukuna is nuking Shibuya, where you can see Inumaki helping people. He was *right* at the border of Sukuna's domain expansion, hence his arms

A
Anthony Bednarz · August 7, 2026

"Make Jujutsu Great Again" was actually a very apt way of describing Brain's goals as presented in this episode. It was earlier in the season, I think, that someone mentioned that after Gojo's birth, stronger curses were born to compensate, something like a karmic balance. What kind of evolution will flooding Japan with curse users and curse spirits create? We'll have to find out.

I've been meaning to write this ever since I watched this episode right after the 2x22 reaction. Anyone insane enough to read all this, I sincerely thank you for reading the many things I'm gonna yap about. The main theme that is prevalent from the beginning of this show is quite clearly the idea of individuality vs altruism. Obviously several other themes are prevalent and you can also see that Gege uses the world of Jujutsu Kaisen as pretty clear social and political commentary about what's wrong with the world but I'm gonna yap about the themes as they relate to the characters mostly. Throughout the show, the narrative relentlessly punishes characters that engage in selfless behaviour while rewarding those that pursue their own needs and desires above all others. Think about how Gojo dealt with Geto’s body alone so that Shoko (the medic) didn’t have to dispose of her childhood best friend, and for this selfless act Kamo Noritoshi is able to obtain the body. In 02x09 when Gojo tries to save everyone instead of sacrificing them, he plays into his enemies’ hands and is sealed. During the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc, Gojo and Geto allow Rika to live like a normal child for a while longer and for that kindness, Rika is killed. Of the 4 curses that worked with Kamo Noritoshi, the one that survived the longest and thrived the most was the one that was the most selfish. Mahito only ever acts according to his own desires without care for anything else and is rewarded as such with his immense potential and tenacity. He’s the idealised curse according to the world (as Hanami mentions that Jogo placed Mahito at the top of the hierachy 02x16). Yuji (and Nanami to a lesser extent, but he's more jaded and a mentor figure so let's just consider Yuji) is a sorcerer that prioritises everything this world (and the narrative) drag down and discourage as much as is possible. He values life and lives for the sake of others above all else. He's ready to stake his life on the fact that life is sacred and should be protected. He is relentlessly punished for this mentality in this environment. Nanami succumbs to this and is now dead. I think narratively it makes sense for Yuji to rise above that and not succumb but reject the ideals Jujutsu is trying to encourage him to have. Yuji’s relationship with Mahito wasI think the most interesting for me. Mahito and Yuji are in fact shockingly similar if you think about it. Both Mahito and Yuji are extremely talented are able to constantly grow and devour those in front of them to get stronger. Think about how Todo talks about Yuji in their fight back in 1x16 ("He's growing stronger in this fight by devouring me") and obviously we're familiar with Mahito's absurd growth rate. What differentiates Mahito and Yuji is specifically their mentality. Mahito is fluid and adaptive and does what he wants, even if those actions may contradict his previous ones. Yuji, on the other hand is constant in his belief of preserving other's lives and wanting the best for them. It makes Mahito breaking Yuji's mental state in this season and Yuji's desire to genuinely kill Mahito more tragic (but deserved). I think you mentioned in 2x21 discussion and I agree with you that we don't have to worry about Yuji suddenly going off the deep end or becoming dark, but he'll almost certainly become more jaded and lose his innocence after this. (This is a complete tangent btw) I'm also curious to see how Yuji's and Sukuna's dynamic is gonna be shown. It's pretty obvious to me that these two are supposed to be perfect enemies. Sukuna embodies individuality and prioritises his freedom above all else. I don't think it's so much that Sukuna values only strength but that he values the 'hunger' to seize one's own ideals. He is uncaring of how his actions affect others and acts according to his own desires and whims. Sukuna is the perfected version of the type of individuality that Jujutsu as it is now encourages. Yuji is everything that Jujutsu rejects and yet, he continues to persist and survive. Sukuna has nothing but contempt for Yuji because Yuji's altruism is everything Sukuna is disgusted by. On top of that, Yuji is the perfect prison for Sukuna, a fact that for a person who prioritises freedom so highly (Eren flashbacks incoming) must be extremely insulting. Yuji and Sukuna have one thing in common: their commitment to their respective ideals.
