Daeron's actor is the boy from Bly Manor!

Daeron also had Gwayne around while he was growing up. Gwayne seems like a good egg, so that probably helped a bit there

Avatar movie? :)

If the real Daeron has red/brown hair, why did Ormund bother making the imposter's hair white? To trick the audience?

K

I don't remember a scene of Daemon hugging his daughters? Is Milena imagining things or am I forgetting something?

T
The Armada · July 31, 2026

Yeah unless I'm forgetting a scene, this didn't happen. I honestly can't even remember a single scene where Daemon had a conversation with either of them in the whole show until this episode with Rhaena. They might be confusing a deleted scene from back in season 1 where Daemon hugged them after their mother's death, but that didn't make it into the final product. People were complaining about that scene being cut online, so maybe the two of them saw it and after all these years have it mixed into their memory of the actual show.

The writers have now made every character on the Green side, in some way, responsible or or complicit in sexual assault. Most of it happens this season, which has become more cartoonish with the introduction of Ormund. And Milena is correct that it makes no sense why Daeron turned out the way he did. I think the writers locked themselves into Daeron's personality because S2 established he was kind, but in S3 they just couldn't resist making Ormund an evil villain.

Holy cow man you've commented like 4 separate times now picking the show and the writers apart. You don't like the show. We get it. Move on. Nobody is forcing you to watch. I think Daeron turned out the way he did mostly because of Gwayne's influence.

K
Kev · July 31, 2026

Ormund killing an innocent man = ominous swelling music, episode cliffhanger, villainous camera angle Daemon killing an innocent man = blink-and-you-miss it moment, death is off-screen, comedic beat where Daemon humorously raises his eyebrows The bias couldn't be more clear. It's best to see this show as popcorn entertainment, it lost storytelling credibility very early on.

We have known Daemon for 3 seasons we know he’s not a good guy and have had plenty of scenes portraying him in a similar manner. I swear you guys are so brain rotten by the twitter debates

I think what I'm struggling with in regards to Alicent is that I don't view Aegon as too far gone, at least not before this season. Her talking about protecting Daeron "seeing as what happened to our other sons" feels wrong to me because it lumps Aegon in with Aemond, which I don't think is fair. Is Aegon a bad person? Yes, but he wasn't a rabid dog the way Aemond is. I keep thinking about that critical scene from 2x4 when a desperate & sad Aegon told his mother "they don't care what I think" and then asked her what he should do. Alicent responded with nothing but cold & snarky dismissal despite Aegon clearly being in a state where he was vulnerable & potentially malleable if given some type of motherly support. That was Alicent's big moment and she failed!

jweher · July 31, 2026

exactly lmao. and aemond proved to be someone she could manipulate too, he may be a "rabid dog", but she successfully got him to leave KL. she's probably the only person in the world that can influence him to do what she wants, his whole macho act is just that, an act. convenient that she could only bust out those skills AFTER she "turned cloak", almost like the writers wanted to force her into a position that didn't naturally fit her character.

At this point it isn't even team black or green anymore. Its Team Rhaenrya, Team Aegon, Team Aemond or team Daeron. I still want Rhaeneya to succeed but it's hard not wanting to root for Daeron. I think the show did a really great job in Ormund and Daerons characterization so far. Ormund is awful but he is very entertaining and definitely a highlight this season

The scene with daemon and Rhaena was great but it would hit harder if it wasn’t their first time talking. And you could say that is the point but he doesn’t have a relationship with Baela as well and she is everything daemon likes in a Targaryen.

K
Kev · July 31, 2026

Exactly, we've seen more on-screen depictions of Baela being ignored and more on-screen dialogue of Baela lamenting how her father ignores her. But all of a sudden Rhaena is the forgotten child?

Overall I think this was a good episode. In regard to Prince Joffrey, his legal father is Laenor Velaryon and he is also named after Laenor's first lover who was killed by Criston back in season 1, Joffrey Lonmouth. Rhaenyra also has two sons with Daemon, Aegon the Younger, and Viserys who were sent to Pentos last season. I'm conflicted on how Ormund Hightower is portrayed this episode. In the books he's basically a blank slate so they could have done anything with him. The actor is doing a good job but having him turn out to be another over the top villainous character who is abusive to Daeron just removes any nuance from him. Ormund being unhinged but still trying to be just and wise ruler with a good relationship with Daeron would have been more interesting. Instead he is another creepy sociopath. I do enjoy how Daeron is portrayed so far, though I dislike that they cut the battle in the Reach he played a major role in. Also its likely that Ormund's father Hobert (and Otto's older brother), who we see a few episodes back in season 1, was still alive and the Lord of Oldtown when Daeron was sent as a ward. Daemon's scene with Rhaena was good, but I wish they had done a little more to develop his relationship with Baela and Rhaena in the past two seasons. Those two have been pretty underutilized the whole show.

jweher · July 31, 2026

yeah, you can tell the actor was having fun playing ormund. but the blood supremacist shit at the end was so over-the-top. that's not to say i'm completely opposed to the concept of him having some crazy notions about the link between man and dragon, and discouraging it being affectionate, especially when we know targaryens/valyrians may have actually done blood magic to create that link, but it was sooo heavy handed. the dialogue, the fact that he brought back that man for daeron to kill, even the portrayal of religious zealots... they have absolutely NO restraint as writers.

BigJo H · July 31, 2026

This is now the third sa scene in 4 episodes. They also all happened on the green side. The choice the writers make are so strange sometimes

j
jweher · July 31, 2026

i saw fabien frankle express how disappointed he was that they cut a line from him when Gwayne told him about the rape one of his men committed. his full line ended with "bring the rapist to me" showing that even at his most nihilistic, suicidal state, Criston was still trying to cling to some honor (which fits his arc!) so, yeah, it's definitely... strange, to say the least.

j
jweher · July 31, 2026

yes, an abortion at this stage would be dangerous. the moontea they drink can wreak havoc on your reproductive system, and far enough into a pregnancy, can kill the mother. in the main series, catelyn stark's sister (lysa tully, the "crazy" lady we meet in s1 that catelyn takes tyrion to) was forced to drink moontea too late into her pregnancy and almost died. it's part of the reason she's... unstable. edit: "too late into a pregnancy" just means when you start showing, which helaena is

j
jweher · July 31, 2026

i didn't like the final scene. this show is too heavy handed.

Gelded = castrated. It is a term more specifically used in regard to horses.

Ormund is of course the standout performance this episode. I love an aristocratic, supremacist villain done well. You really see the contradictions in his worldview and also his posture breaking down when he gets the bad news from Harrenhall. I also appreciate how in a few scenes they showed the dynamic between him and Daeron, the fact that there's a history with these two. On the other theatres of the war I really like the direction Criston Cole was taken with Gwayne Hightower. You see a view of how there's no way back from Cole now than to fight, and what he really wants is to die in a gaze of glory. He's all appearance and no substance, a perfect contrast with our boy Dunk in akotsk

Ormund and Daeron are a good addition this season
