It’s limited to think of The Joining as just an allegory for AI. It very much is sentient.
I will die angry that Rhea never won an Emmy for playing Kim Wexler but this show isn't nearly as effective without the performance Karolina Wydra is giving as Zosia!!! She has to walk a tightrope playing a character I've never actually seen portrayed on screen.
I know you are dead and cant read this, but i agree! Its a tough, thankless character she has to navigate and the actress does a really strong job. I guess she had practice with a similar character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. :P
Carol… you’re losing me
Everything the hive mind is doing is manipulation and everything that Carol is doing is either saintly or her being a victim. lol. Some people.
Gotta say, I was like YALL NEED TO WATCH PLURIBUS as soon as it came out. Seeing you two geek out so insanely hard is awesome. I like you have to pick my jaw up off the ground when I hear people say it’s boring or slow. Those people should stick to real housewives shows smh. Glad yall loved it. Ps…you guys really need to watch the movie The Life of Chuck by Mike Flanagan, you guys would fucking love it and also be shocked he isn’t scaring the ever loving shit out of you plus his wife is in it wink wink lol.
This show has been so amazing, i love having Rhea Seehorn back on my screen! The Emmy nominations have just been announced and pluribus has 18 in total which is incredible! I'm hoping that Rhea finally wins the Emmy she should have won for Better Call Saul as Kim Wexler.
Kim Wexler is arguably one of the best female TV characters of all time. Its a crime Rhea was never nominated for it.
The carol defending these next two episodes will be generational
Just one more episode... I wanna say though that when this show first came out I had a friend who was trying to get me into it and while she was giving me a vague idea about what to expect she mentioned a "main lesbian couple" and to say that I was misled is a huge fucking understatement 😭 I love this though. The thought of actual Zosia coming back with the memories of everything that's happened sounds so so so horrific. I can't wait for Carol & Manousos to meet!!!!
This episode is definitely controversial. For me the way I see, the show shows us 3 versions of people responding to the Hivemind. One person who accept everything about the Hivemind, another person that refuses everything, then Carol who since the beginning has accepted help from them, while keeping some kind of autonomy. Everyone has their own view on this but for me, I’m just watching where the show is bringing us. It's the same thing as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The protagonist is far from being perfect or right, but they are very interesting and complex.
If Mr. Diabate should "go to jail" as Lola and Melina say...well then so does Carol. If the argument is "Well, Carol was seduced and manipulated by the hive! she gets a pass!" the same should go to Mr. Diabate. The hive seduced him by saying all they want to do is make him happy and to give him whatever he wants until they figure out how to "fix" his problem for not being turned. The virus/aliens are the ultimate ones to blame here. Not these two. The virus is the one that took over these human bodies without their permission and has been using them for its own necessities and demands. It tossed those women at Mr. Diabate. It threw Zoszia at Carol knowing Carol found her "extremely fuckable" The odds of truly being able to reverse the virus is already too large to think about. And even if it can be reversed, the most likely outcome is the human individual still having the memories of this time during the collective (what logical explanation could there be to have their mind wiped of that when they turn back to an individual?) So we are talking about individuals going insane with the weeks and months of all minds melding with all the knowledge and feeling thereof. And even IF that 0.001% chance happens that they can reverse it, and truly severe the human from the entire experience and memory of being a collective...some magical way to put the individual back to exactly how they were at Day ZERO and remember nothing after that...the person they sexually assaulted without their permission won't remember it. And both Mr. Diabate and Carol will essentially shrug and say "oops" and move on because the miracle of having the individuals back will supersede and overshadow any remorse or guilt of what they did during those dark days when they thought it was hopeless to get humanity back. So lets stop blaming the few individuals that remain and blame the responsible party in all this. The virus. And ultimately, the beings that sent it.
What if once they reverse the joining, zosia and everyone do remember being joined and its like a weird memory that the whole world shares, and everyone on earth just knows carol now
I imagine an ending to this is they reverse the joining, and everyone who is "saved" expresses how great it was and seek to imprison or execute Carol, and the show ends with her becoming a martyr for the freedom she gave everyone.
Such a heavy episode, even if it's not as morose as last episode. Gdańsk is in Poland, on the Baltic coast (I more often see it referred to in English-speaking media by its German name, Danzig). Karolina Wydra, who plays Zosia, is Polish, and it's been a fierce debate in the fandom from her first appearance what the CHARACTER's background was supposed to be. Since she was in Morocco at the time of the Hivemind takeover, some people thought that the character was supposed to be Moroccan and they had just cast this random woman even though she has no connection at all to the country. Now we know that she is also from Poland, but we still don't know WHY she was in Morocco. Was she on vacation? Possibly. Had she moved here long ago? Also possible. Had she been trafficked here against her will? Still another possibility. Since we know so little about her life, all we know is what we've seen personally so far, and that has given us very little info about her. Something I thought when we first saw Manousos, but which is re-emphasized here, is that he believes that people are COMING BACK. He insists on paying for everything because he believes that eventually individuality is going to be restored, and these diffferent people all across the two American continents are going to find that they are missing gas out of their cars (or bandages and antibiotics from their hospital). Every time he insists on paying for what he takes is another Exclamation Mark that the peple Are! Coming! Back! I think Zosia stumbling over using the "I" pronoun here is one of the coldest, most manipulative actions the Hivemind takes (on par with them originally completely abandoning Carol). Because the show has already shown us that they know how to 'pretend' in order to entertain the remaining humans. We saw the entire poker fantasy scene with Diabaté a few episodes ago, and then the diner scene here. They CAN use "I" in a sentence without stumbling over it, despite it not being accurate. But she stumbles here to create the impression of a woman overwhelmed and dealing with overpowering emotions and desires and confusion, just like Carol. Such a calculated portrayal of vulnerability.
I just don't know how much that is the case when it could also be explained with 'the writers weren't thinking about that when they wrote the poker scene, the poker scene was trying to accomplish a completely different thing and they just didn't think about the plot hole'
I still think Carol commits sexual assault here the same as the guy in Vegas because these bodies can’t consent. It’s the only decision in the show that made me mad at Carol. Even if you can see how she gets there it’s still an awful thing. Especially when we see that she believes there’s a way to reverse the Hive in the earlier episodes.
Yeah that also rubbed the wrong way but I would say.. I might be wrong on this but it feels the hive was seducing Carol on purpose in this episode.. so I feel they were expecting Carol to sleep with them. Again I could be totally wrong but that’s how I took it.
"I don't clink glasses with Diet fucking Pepsi!" Cheers for lemonade...What the apocalypse has done to our Carol...
Has there ever been a time where the internet in your hotel was actually good lol? I don’t travel as often as you girls but it seems you always get unlucky with the internet in hotels.
I travel all the time, and at most hotels I stay at (mid- to mid-high-end), they won't let me upload much, and even when they do, it is almost unusable because it's so slow.
