"the french guy" are not French, Mauritania has not a French colony since 1960

Man I remember before this ep there was so much debate about what was in the warehouse, people saying "What else could it POSSIBLY be??" vs people saying "That's WAY too obvious" and when it turns out that, yes it was what you assumed but it didn't matter was a brilliant subversion. When Jon Cena popped up I actually laughed out loud

I think the girls love Rhea Seahorn so much they are blinded to the characterization of Carol and how others in the world view her. There are articles that also express that Vince Gilligan purposefully made the character "unlikable".

Why is Carol even trying to bring back individualism when all remaining individuals who have gotten to know her don't like having her around? She's an unpleasant person through and through. She's an interesting character. But if I were to meet someone like Carol in real life I would also avoid her like a plague. Just a bundle of negativity ALL the time. The worst part of Carol is that she's selfish. She is in the minority of wanting to bring back the old world but just because other individuals don't agree with her, they're now worthy of her condemnation. There's no making peace with her. Its either her way or the highway. Carol deserves to be lonely.

It’s crazy how pressed her character makes men lmao

After the end of the previous episode, we were all arguing over what Carol had seen. Some people said that it was TOO OBVIOUS for it to be human bodies, and that meant it would be something else. Once I heard that theory I actually thought that made sense, only to learn right in the opening here that it was humans after all. But then they threw in the great twist that it wasn't a secret and everybody knew already. Very mundane and boring. That was brilliant. When Manousos watches Carol's video here, I think back to what Helen said to Carol back in the first episode (talking about the novel "Finnegans Wake" and how she couldn't finish it despite it being such a well-praised book). If what you've created touches ONE PERSON, then that's beautiful and that means something. Now we see that Carol reached one person and it was beautiful. Fun Trivia: The character Manousos was always written to be from Paraguay, but apparently Paraguay has a very distinctive accent which is hard to impersonate for other Spanish speakers. His actor Carlos-Manuel Vesga is from Colombia, and when he learned the character was supposed to be from Paraguay he said that he wouldn't be able to do the accent convincingly for anybody who knows what it sounds like. So they added in the background fact that the character is ALSO from Colombia even though he lives in Paraguay now, and they put in many fixtures in his office and home to indicate this.

I'm a little annoyed that the keep calling Diabete "the french guy" when he's not french and it does make a difference. In the previous episode they said "we are living in a society" or something similar, so I was wondering whether they've ever seen Seinfeld...

If Carol's goal is reversing the joining and saving humanity then it's absolutely in her shared interest to make sure the hive doesn't starve to death.

I’m Carol’s #1 stan, and I spent the show matching her energy completely and being soo angry by the other survivors, and I do still think they’re insane. However, with hindsight I can admit that while her attitude and actions are 100% relatable and the more “sane” examples of how a human would act in this situation, I can see how she kept getting in her own way. We see that Carol and Manousos are the most invested in “saving the world” but because of how they go about it, they consistently prove to know less about the hive than the other survivors. Carol is always one step behind, Manousos isn’t even really aware of what’s going on because he won’t talk to them at all. Their difficulty in adapting to the situation, and Carol’s inability to communicate with the other survivors in a softer way, is putting them at a major disadvantage. At the end of the day, they’re not the only ones experiencing the trauma of the situation. And Carol would gain more by accepting that and making an effort to talk to them in a more rational tone. Although, of course, I would be just as angry and irritating in her situation, so I love her lol. I loved the little moment of Diabate watching how Carol ate her food and copying her. A moment of genuine socializing he’ll never get with the hivemind. Being with someone and adopting a little thing they do. Lola mentioned how he didn’t know how to eat it like that, but I think that’s a hint to him coming from an impoverished place where avocado toast isn’t exactly an option. I get the impression he’s just as lonely as Carol, but while she copes by being harsh and pushing everyone away, he indulges in all sorts of debauchery and never has a moment alone. He’s clearly playing a character, he kinda reminds me of Saul Goodman. Finally, Manousos seeing Carol’s message, which we’ve previously seen as hilariously over-dramatic or lame, but through his eyes is framed as a beacon of hope… I got a lil emotional ngl 🤧 I’ll never forget how hyped up I got when he responded to her message like it was the batman signal lol, LETS GO MANOUSOS!!

Carol is a miserable person. If I were one of the remaining individuals I would exclude her too.

Carol demands everyone listen to her but listens to no one. She demands respect but doesn’t give it. She’s the world’s last Karen.

What stuck with me in this rewatch was the performance of Samba Schutte as Koumba Diabate. He represents pretty much the person that sees the Joined as a venue to take whatever he wants from them. Extrapolating from the fact that he is from Mauritania, one of the poorest most illiterate countries on earth, he probably comes from a very modest background so it is only natural that he would look at the situation as a chance to live like a king. Unlike Kusimayu he doesn’t want to Join them, but to be a benevolent master and them the happy slaves. He is also the only one willing to talk to Carol (though he doesn’t want her to ruin his ‘sweet deal’), who to her dismay, learns that her abrasive manner and poor communication skills have cut her off from the other individuals.

One of the few characters I’m rooting for in this show.. Manousus Oviedo! Lowkey I feel he is the most realistic out of all of them. Or at least the one I can relate the most if I was in this situation lol

S
Siddhant Pandey · July 4, 2026

I am VERY MUCH rooting for him, yes, but I don't know about "most realistic". He is VERY stubborn AND militant in his approach to the hive. I found Carol to be more realistic in her response to the hive mind. The average anti-hivemind person will almost certainly react more like her imo. Though, of course, Manousos appears to harbor Carol's philosophy and attitude, albeit to a more extreme degree. I love both characters, tho. And to be honest, I see myself in both of them, especially when it comes to my negative attitude towards GenAI lol

b
broken king · July 4, 2026

Manousos Oviedo is the character I am really impressed with from his intro and after. His character seems to have come from another time, living secluded, stuck in analog, you almost feel he comes from the 70s, making him in aesthetics a natural enemy of the AI coded Joined, coming from the digital world. You even see it in his Car! I think that his fraught relationship with his mother further solidifies his position as an outcast that has a mainly adversarial relationship with other human beings. PS really funny that you got the title right

I don't know if the plans are to do Bear and HOTD together or one at a time, but either way, with Pluribus only having another week and a half i believe Long Show will return soon. I don't know if there will be a post exclusively for suggestions or if the girls have already decided on the poll options, but I’m going to start campaigning for: Six Feet Under Sons of Anarchy Buffy the Vampire Slayer Deadwood any of them winning the poll would be great.

S
Scott · July 4, 2026

Based on the previous live-action poll, I'd be surprised if Barry doesn't win. It was a close 2nd to Mad Men.

As a Spanish speaker, I chuckled at the title of the episode. We learn that HDP is what the plurbs consume, but by the end of the episode Manousos calls his mother a "cabrona", a bitch, but bitch can also translate to "perra". He's essentially calling himself a son of a bitch, an "hijo de perra" (HDP). Although that acronym is more commonly use for "hijo de puta" which sounds harsher lol I thought that was a fun double meaning, not sure if intentional
