Also: You have to rewatch House of the Dragon before reacting to Season 3. I literally lost all my knowledge what happened and no recap helped.
The Bear S5 after The Boys? or is there something else lined up
I don't know, but House of the Dragon is also an option I guess? Maybe we get a poll to decide what comes first?
You have no idea how fucking angry I am about this episode and this whole season. Gen V Season 2 ended with Starlight, A-Train and a lot of the Gen V characters in a big resistance group against Homelander and Vought. Marie, the character you met this episode, is basically like Amon from The Legend of Korra Season 1. She is a bloodbender. She has the same origin as Homelander, is equally strong, maybe even stronger, was created in a lab, trained in her abilities, can control human bodies with her mind, heal injuries, repair human tissue, and is, in general, an incredibly well-written character. Everyone who watched the Season 4 finale and Gen V Season 2 expected something really fucking big this season. And now, seven episodes in, we can tell that we got nothing. Not even that: with that one Marie scene, they spit in the face of everyone who watched Gen V. Marie was, besides the virus and maybe Ryan, the next best thing to stop Homelander. She could literally remove Compound V from Homelander’s blood. And now the show trashes everything about her character in this scene. It is so bad that it feels like Dany starting to kill civilians in King’s Landing, or Bran the Three-Eyed Raven accepting the throne of the Seven Kingdoms. It is such a massive fuck-up of a writing choice that they killed everything Gen V was about, along with any possible interest I had in their spin-offs. The whole resistance built around Annie is a joke. We jump in during Episode 1, and we see nothing from them. Butcher, who ruined the plan with Neuman in the Season 4 finale and caused Homelander’s takeover, just returns like nothing happened after one year of doing nothing, and everyone accepts it. Annie just gives up and runs away from everyone to her fucking dad, who is only there for one filler episode, for nothing, just to stretch something that should not have been stretched. I literally do not understand what the plan for this season was supposed to be. Just to summarize what happened: Homelander took V1 to become immune to the virus. Homelander wants to be a god and is killing everyone who does not follow him or believe in him. The Boys randomly started trying to turn Kimiko into Soldier Boy 2.0 after spending 14 episodes with a virus plot that lost all meaning and relevance. And this French guy died. What was his name again? Why was he part of the group? Does anyone remember? I forgot. I expected so much more. I did not expect Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul writing, but the writing in The Boys was great in the first two seasons. A rewatch of the show really makes you realize how much the quality went down. This is so disappointing. So utterly bad. The best scene of this episode was the opening with Oh-Father. That was a lot of fun.
I agree with much of this, but I watched Gen V and didn't care for it, so personally I was happy with how little the characters were included.
Before posting episode 8,can you tell us your general opinion about season 5?
season 4 and 5 are just bad, they turned a complex show into a comedy. pretty funny sometimes tho ngl lol
Cutting to Annie after Butcher said "a tragic inability to smile" was absolutely diabolical
Sabemos que ustedes tienen el último capítulo por ahí (@_@) súbanlo y les daré una galletita.
This is the low watermark for me, this episode. The finale itself I think was ‘fine’. Just fine, and all the pieces ended where I expected them to, even if how they got there was unsatisfactory. I can live with the finale. But this episode felt like such a total waste of an hour. It’s about the same level as the mansion episode last season for me, the two worst episodes of the show in my opinion. Watching two jobber villains sniff each others backsides really made me question the writers room. Second last episode and that’s where we put some runtime towards? The only part I recall appreciating was Joe Kessler coming back and getting a look into Butchers past… but I think that is it. I only watched one season of Gen V but if you were in any way invested in that story, they really made you look a schmuck with this one too. The show feels very small this season. We have a global threat in the form of a V1 Homelander. He kills the US president in the Oval Office. Where are the repercussions? Where is the public’s reaction? What is the world making of this? For such high stakes, it really feels like there’s no sense of scale.
There could have been a world where this death was powerful and honored the story and character. But I feel like the writers were too scared to write this season with its own “voice,” if that makes any sense, and Frenchie’s death ended up feeling more like “we need to kill one of them off” than something that was properly built towards
I don’t know if it’s because I have difficulty separating the character from the actor, who participates in genocide and kidnaps teenage girls from their homes (and then somehow wants us to feel bad for him because their families weren’t nice to him taking their daughters), or if it’s because the show’s writing has fallen off so much that it’s failed to give the scene any emotional weight to me outside of Kimiko, but man I did not give a shit when Frenchie died. I wouldn’t have believed that possible a season ago.
Honestly, yeah... some people would say it's "too woke" but I can usually separate the character from the actor to some extent, but with him specifically, I just can't. And the writing for the season didn't help me care about the death either, so it becomes a combination of everything
