Watching this for the first time as well and I'm enjoying it so much!!! I can't wait for the next episode
Carol trying to monopolize the group and bend them to her will is exactly the response I would expect from an American Karen.
Oh, BTW, the "nuclear football" that Koumba Diabaté was carrying was not a literal nuclear bomb. The "football" is a briefcase that has the codes/information on how the President of the United States can authorize and launch nuclear weapons while away from the various Official Commmand Centers. Visiting other counties, making public appearances, etc. It's carried with the presidential train whenever they go anywhere. The official name is the "Presidential Emergency Satchel", but everybody calls it the nuclear football.
If the 6 remaining human beings on the planet in that plane didnt know it wasnt an actual nuclear bomb, does it matter? Might as well be. Those 6 people are living in the reality they choose to believe an make.
The immediate switch up on Diabaté lmao.
I would have had them start production of Vinland Saga season 3, 86 season 2 and HxH while they're at it. Forget Air Force One. The first time I watched this episode that was the first thing that came to my mind lol
The plurb knows us best
A lot of people argue about why Carol is the only one who is unhappy with this situation, and I've seen dozens of different theories. Some I think make sense, some I disagree with very strongly. But the thing that I haven't seen anybody else mention but which I think is the heart of the matter, is that Carol is the only one who SAW the change happen. It happened around 9:00pm local time in New Mexico. For everybody living in Africa and Asia it would have been the middle of the night, approaching dawn. They were probably all asleep when the change happened, so they didn't see their loved ones "shut down" or go through the spasming process. They went to bed the night before in the normal world, and they woke up the next morning in this New World with their loved ones telling them that everything is wonderful and better now. They didn't have the moments of panic and fear that Carol had when she saw Helen suddenly fall over, or the dawning horror when she realized everybody around her was also affected. None of them screamed at their loved ones hoping for a response, only to get complete silence and no acknowledgement at all until they woke up as somebody new after going through this horrible process. Even Peru, where Kusimayu is from (the young teenage girl), is an hour or two hours ahead of New Mexico, so she also may have been asleep at 10/11pm. With none of them SEEING this happen, they don't have the the visceral reaction that Carol has. Plus, if they and their families were all asleep, that explains how none of them were injuried or killed during the transition like Helen was. So that's why they have their families with them, and again why they're not knee-jerk angry. All because it happened at a diferent time for them.
Fun fact. The plane they were flying to Bilbao on was a Wayfarer plane. That’s the same airline that plane that crashed in Breaking Bad when Jane’s dad messed up was part of.
peak.
Lola saying she'd be like Diabate was not on my bingo card 😭😹
yeaaaah, this is why I was freaking out when I thought you might not watch until Season 2. This was too good to sit on :)
Really nice episode! Breaks the convention of trying to save humanity by the rest of the remnants of humanity refusing to be the saviours, and disputing the concept of saving. While carol makes, in my opinion the most compeling arguments, as you said they still have family with the joined, and they don't comprehend that their loved ones aren't really them anymore. Another thing that cought my attention though is the fact that Carol says things like "go back to normal", "get things back to what it used to be". She is the only member of the individuals that is part of the global north, where the impersonal, hyper individualistic, hyper antagonistic world is built, and is a beneficiary, while the other individuals were the victims of the old world. That's not to say that she is wrong but that turning back to old modes of thinking may not be actually the noble goal Carol has in mind.
I didn't realise this was the more than once a week slot, nice!
Second episode and Carol already killed a couple thousands just by her reacting negatively to the pirate lady and showing her negative/ intense emotions lol idk why I found that funny.. it’s dark but lowkey it feels like something from a dark comedy ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ . Also this episode made me hate all the other “normal people “ idk but it feels to unrealistic the way they are ok with it.. like what the fuck..
Carol killed 11 million the first time and several million more the second time. Regarding the other non-effected individuals, their cultures are more focused on doing what’s best for society than the individual, so their response isn’t that surprising. I agree with Carol, but I’m glad they showed different viewpoints.
I love how much you two love this show!
love this show so much < 3
Watched the first episode last night and thought this would be a once a week show but this is a nice surprise!
They have too many Short Length to get through, so Long Running Live Actions were temporarily suspended
That dang ol Vince Gilligan sure is good at making them talking stories, ain’t he?! The trailers didn’t tell you shit and they were like 20 seconds long or something just to keep you in the dark. No one knew much beyond that save the world from happiness tagline. And the show was called Wycaro during production. And if no one told yall Pluribus is a Latin word meaning many or from many. It’s part of a phrase on US 1 dollar bills.
But its that phrase that matters here E Pluribus Unum. "Out of many, one" Vince allowed just the one word because it makes a relatively better title to pass around, but its the entire phrase that's important to this show. Many becoming one.
The thumbnail😭 Pluribus saturdays are gonna heal me🤍
Right?
