Man I really enjoyed when this first aired and the initial round of reactions because of the conversations it sparked and knowing you guys I'm sure you'll approach things with empathy and nuance. "What would you do?" not sure I would react if something like this actually happened, but I'd like to think I'd try to hold out for a little while. Maybe hole up somewhere and try to finish all the Great Novels I never read.

Albuquerque is the happiest if accidents from back in the day. Breaking Bad was written to be in Riverside California but they got a tax break to film in Albuquerque. Then he fell in love with the city and more importantly all the behind the scenes folks who work on the set. Most of those people are locals. He ended up moving there permanently so that’s his spot now. I will get a kick out of it if all his stuff is set there. It’s like Stephen King and Maine lol.
by the way the blowing car thing is an alcohol test, it's what they install you if you had problems with drunk driving. I know it looks pretty futuristic even to me and I was taken aback, that's what coming from a small European village like me makes you not realize about cities 😂

FYI: Helen died from a brain injury after falling and hitting the back of her head. If she hadn't fallen, she would've lived.

Oooooooh yeeeaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Woo! I've been waiting for you two to get to this. To answer your first question, the word "Pluribus" is Latin. It means "many". The only place I've encountered it in real life is in the phrase "E Pluribus Unum" which means "Out of many; one". That is one of the mottos of the USA. Other than that I only ever saw it when I studied Latin in high school. Helen died because she fell over during the change and hit her head. It wasn't the infection itself, it was the blunt force trauma since she didn't cushion herself at all or even try to hold her head up. Just a tragic "accident" (Like the person we saw who was missing a leg in the aftermath, and the turned-over cop car). Except for the alien signal and the virus hivemind, this does take place in the "real world". That breathalyzer in Carol's car is a common thing in the USA for people who have alcohol addiction and convictions for drunk driving. They are often legally required for any car owned by the person in question for them to retain their driver's license, since otherwise they will be prohibited from being allowed to drive at all. The presence of that breathalyzer, plus several other comments that Helen makes, tells us that Carol has a pretty serious history of alcoholism. Yes, Helen and Carol were romantically together. They lived together, and spoke of "us". We don't yet know much more than that, but we know they were 'more than friends'. When it comes to Carol and her contempt for the books she writes, something I noticed is that despite how low she thinks of the work, she is so friendly to her fans during that meet-and-greet. She smiles, she answers their questions, and she poses for pictures. I know it's business, but I've known many authors/actors/artists in real-life who are so much ruder during their meetups. They sign the book, take the money, and don't engage at all. I've even seen people with armed security standing right behind them to move their fans along like a robot (Although that was only once). Carol may think her work sucks, and she may think her fans are stupid for liking it, but she has the decency to not say that to their faces. That might be a low bar, but she still crosses it.
The breathalyzer in the car for it to start is a real thing (and rumors are that it’s soon to be mandatory in the states, but just rumors). They did these at bars but it has the opposite effect because people end up drinking more to see how drunk they can get.

The device in the car is a car breathalyzer (Ignition Interlock Device), when you get a DUI you can have it put on your car. Not sci-fi or futuristic, it's existed for decades now.
Great! I just finished the season and I am just thinking about it constantly, fresh in ideas, very topical and also more compicated than a simple apocalypse scenario. On your question, I think pluribus is many in the ablative case in latin(I think serbian has ablative no?) comes from the latin moto of the US government "e pluribus unum" (out of many one), of course satirical in use since it is its realization in a nightmarish way.
I will rewatch this show again with you girls. I have my personal feelings about this show but I will keep them to myself until the end.. without also saying much I will say the first episode is definitely a strong start. Vince definitely is a master when it comes to writing strong pilots and this one doesn’t miss the mark.
Pluribus is awesome. I just think Season 1 wasn’t enough. It feels like Breaking Bad Season 1, a great start, but the story has barely even begun. I would have loved to wait for Season 2, but when it is here now, I'm excited, It’s going to be a lot of fun. I was always hungry for the next episode and watched each one immediately when it came out. The discussions will be great!
Honestly I didn't quite get Pluribus, but I might still watch these reactions to see if their insights will get me to appreciate the show more.

I know its not the time now, BUT when you finish plurbus, will you have time to watch the batman? 😅 Its kinda needed for penguin in a way that the characters talk a lot about what happens in the movie, the movie its a murder mistery so you ill be spoiled, literally all the reveals and twists
I think the show works on its own, that’s how I watched it, but yes it definitely spoils the movie.

Yooooo let’s go! I’m out eating sushi and saw this pop up. So stoked. I loved this show so much. Someone gave Vince millions of dollars to go crazy and he didn’t disappoint. Rhea shows off her skills. Biggest gripe I’ve heard is people mad they gotta wait for some more so that’s always better to hear than “it sucked” lol. Hope yall dig it.
